Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Trying to get all the ducks in a row...

These are just things I have been thinking about and thought I would share for those of you who may not know.

No one is sharing information so until CCi files with the SEC, we won't know which schools are teaching out.

Personally, I am not counting on a severance since the DOE has to approve all funds that CCi spends now. If we get one, bonus.

Don't forget to call your healthcare providers and set up appts for you and your family immediately. Let them know that you only have insurance through the end of the month that you were laid off and need to get in ASAP. Renew any scripts that you can, preferably on a 90 day. Retail pharmacies do not do 90 day so you will have to go through Express Scripts for mail delivery. If your script is a controlled substance, it must be physically mailed in to Express Scripts with the original paper prescription.

If you have made contributions to your flex card in excess of what you have spent for the year, you can probably still use it but I don't know what happens if your spending has exceeded your contributions. Any ideas?

If you have insurance available through your spouse, check into that and check healthcare.gov. If CCi files bankruptcy, COBRA will not be an option and it may be cheaper anyway to go with one of the first two options.

If you pull your 401K vs rolling it over into an IRA or some other retirement plan, you will lose about 50% of it.

There may be an option to switch your life insurance over to a personal policy without providing proof of insurability. Contact The Hartford to find out.

When you get to work on Monday, search the HUB for Benefit Contact Information. There is a page with all phone numbers and web addresses for all of our benefits.

Hope this helps a little bit. Best of luck to everyone.

I did exactly that last weekend. I went on line to Express Scripts and ordered 90 days of our medications. All you have to do is open an account and our meds were free. I also called our doctor and moved my wife's appointment to July from August.

For Flex spending, all purchase must be completed by your last day of employment & you can spend up to the max you chose to fund it for. The good news is just like you lose it if you don't use it, in this case you can spend it all even if the year is only 1/2 over & you owe NOTHING!

Thank you 18297 for the link about employment and bankruptcy. 18309, All I know is what I have experienced. In Michigan, every pharmacy I have brought my prescription to will only allow for a 30 day supply even though the script is written for 90 days. This may be because it is considered a controlled substance but if you are on a time crunch, just be aware that it can cause issues.

And most will fill a 90 day script as long as you have script from doc.

"If you have made contributions to your flex card in excess of what you have spent for the year, you can probably still use it but I don't know what happens if your spending has exceeded your contributions"

With the Feb layoffs, most had only a couple contributions but were still able to use what they could in a short time. (i.e. $500 total but only had est $40 contributions.) If you have a $2500 contribution planned, it would be harded to use up. Print the list of items you can use FSA for and get all you can. ;)
