Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Full classes

What kills me is that the classes I was assigned are all full. The maximum number of students. How can all of these students not know what is happening? How do they not know what their degree will be worth? What are "recruiters" telling new students?

I think admin ought to pay more attention to the student feedback. . .

Um, I am an adjunct here. I still say get another job if you hate it. If you need to make ends meat, that's up to you. But it's a total disservice to your students to have a bad attitude and such anger towards them. It's probably not very healthy for you either. But clearly you can take more classes at the multiple schools you work at.

Again, you work at will and sign a contract. If you hate your job, don't sign the contract. Nobody is forcing you to stay at this institution. And with these attitudes, you're probably doing everyone a disservice.

But the point is mute. In another 6 months you won't have anything left to complain about either way . . .

19762 You obviously don't know how being an adjunct employee works. Many of us DO have multiple jobs at different schools and have to do so in order to make ends meet. It's very easy to judge when you have a "normal 9-5" and adjuncts are stuck teaching 6-7 classes, 5 of which are for everest so the students don't give a shit. It's defeating, but we keep doing it in hopes of landing a full-time tenure track position somewhere. Yeah, "go to another school" indeed.

If other schools are so much better, go work at one.

19729 - Wrong. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid. I teach at lots of schools and none of them have the number of horrible students as we do, the so-called late policy that promotes lateness, allowing students to post to discussions last minute and then after the week is over, and the amount of outreach and admin tasks we have. This school is focused too much on numbers and having students on rosters than about preparing them for the real world. Student not attending the class - then drop them and take away their financial aid. This alone could have saved millions of dollars for taxpayers.

I'm sick reading this. I'm off this board for good. You people should be ashamed to take a paycheck.

This is not a college. Many couldn't cut it in kindergarten.

All you instructors with bad attitudes should find new jobs. You sign the contract. You agree to do outreach. If you hate it or are burned out, do your students a favor and find new jobs. You are part of the reason we have such a bad reputation. You are at at will employee. You agreed to the terms if the contract. Feel free to find a new gig. With that attitude, it's probably not easy.

Come on. You posting these remarks makes you far more ignorant than any students attending any college.

Anonymous19705: Great term? You like outreaching to the stupids, feel free. Must be that you are on their level and can actually understand wth they write or say.

Why are you teaching? You are what gives instructors a bad name. Instructors should be happy their classes are full and looking forward to a great term. I am.

I love how we get the PL puppets that send out directives from the PD that we MUST do something in a day or two. Ever consider that we have real jobs, and can't meet your unrealistic changing demands and deadlines?

Yup. Robots doing useless administrative outreach tasks acting like we give a sh@t that a student chose to enroll only for the money and not at all serious about their studies. Trying to get these idiots to write, speak, or read a coherent sentence. Our delusional Program Director sending out cartoonish emails about reaching out to every student, the focus on numbers (attrition, retention, Talisma, blah blah blah). How about taking off your rose-colored glasses and seeing reality for what it is. Our faculty should not be spending time or worrying about outreach or numbers. They should be there to teach and support those few students that are serious about learning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe so. In the meantime we will have to keep sending out at risk emails to MIA students, even though it's a fruitless endeavor. Gotta meet those instructor expectations, or we might get a bad eval. Pfft.

Newsflash...the 'students' are not actually enrolling to take the class and learn. They are there to collect financial aid stipends..another form of welfare. These dummies don't care if school closes...they will seek a refund or discharge of their loans. Entitled society.
