Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

5 year business plan due to lenders by 18 July 2014 - Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Hopefully soon after we can get some answers to the re-structure?

Staff and students are waiting to find out their fate. Is their school closing? Should I withdrawal now and use my GI Bill Benefits at a State college? We are waiting on you Mr. West! It's great being a student held hostage. It's pretty bad when I get up in the morning and check the Stock price before I even bother logging into my class and working on my course. It's the only honest answer I can get as the school has no clue to what's going on or they are hiding the information from the students.

I think that will stay private until they reach a deal or not.

Students should use their GI Bill money at a state college regardless.

Interesting. 5 year plan, pretty optimistic, but then again, what are their options, to throw in the towel? Don't count these guys out, they have some of the best people like Johnson who have turned failing businesses around, on the board. Of course they turned those businesses around with massive restructuring and re-branding, so hang on to your hats. Unless there is some surprise event that accelerates the demise, like a big losing lawsuit or DOE decision similar to what happened to Corinthian, this could drag on for a while. Bottom line is the state college/community college emerging online competition is going kick EDMC's ass I think, since 50k for an AA, 100k for a BA is just way too much regardless of quality of education or even job prospects. You need a 60k annual job to pay those loans, off the top of my head, and I just don't see most grads earning that.

I don't want to be a Debby Downer, but I'm an employee and a (former) student and I actually just withdrew from school today. It sucks to throw away almost two years of academic effort, but better to cut my losses now and put my efforts elsewhere.
