One of the largest benficiary groups from our business practices were publishers, whose cost of expensive textbooks books were buried within the tuition. Follow the money: look at the politicians who have been on the boards of publishers or received contribution from said boards.

To Anonymous20476, what school is this at? Do you know then name of the district store manager?
I've actually been able to speak with one of the district store managers for the bookstore company quite a few times before this whole mess with CCI started. The manager of the store was really nice but this guy who was her boss was a total jackass. Had a way of speaking down to you but did it with a smile. As far as I'm concerned, the people that run the bookstore are no different than those running the school. After your money and don't bother trying to hide it.
Why getbooksifits included? Makesnosense.
Pearson is NOT the only publisher left. Cengage and Elsevier are still here. Plus most students don't know to get their books used because the cost of their books is included in their tuition. All they have to do is pick them up from the school store that's run by another company called Ambassador. I asked the one employee that works at the store in my school how it all works. He didn't elaborate but said he doesn't work for CCI. I asked him if he was worried. His reply? Yes, but all I can do is show up and do my job.
It's a sad day when people that don't work for CCI are still directly affected by their bad choices.
Some of the 'custom pubs' were horrible!
Pearson is the only publisher left of college texts.
This is exactly right. We now treat students like ATMs, tacking on whatever charges and fees we possibly can. Textbook publishers are scumbags. I tell my students to buy their books used if at all possible. Unfortunately, most of my students are too lazy and clueless to actually follow my advice.
