Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

We need Corinthian College!

As a country we need education and CCi is providing that to the under privileged and in locations that may not allow the opportunity for a traditional college education. And speaking of college degrees CCi degrees are career field degrees for those who want to be educated in a field not by taking High School Math to show they can add. We are consistently complaining about our uneducated population (compared to China, Japan) and many other countries that promote education.

As a country we need support these institutions, there are many individuals who will never have education opportunities and CCi provides those who can’t afford or relocate to with just that.

If CCi goes down it will just be another Billion to add to our deficit, but hey when you’re at a Trillion what’s another Billion between friends?

So think about it and I mean really think about it. What if you lived in Zebulon, NC and wanted a degree. Then you see that CCi can help you, what are you going to do? Pass on the opportunity as usual? Or, call and obtain your degree as directed by your career objectives. Not because you think a Psyche or Poli Sci degree is going to get you anywhere or you want to go to CU and party.

Let’s quit the trash and realize that just like anything else, CCi would not be there if it was not a necessary option and ‘by the way’ we put them there and authorized the funding (or wait CCi was founded in 1995) when we were all on the same side. When the deficit was down and we had one of the best presidents we have had in a long time. The House and the Senate did not fight like a bunch of girls and we actually knew the value of education.

Remember an online degree is not necessarily viewed as just an education but it is also for the drive and discipline it takes obtain the degree. Kind of like working from home, I know and have disciplined many virtual workers mainly because they just do not have the discipline to be successful.

As we do, we look at the few complaints and follow and support them but why don’t we ask what kind of students were they? And better yet, were they actively involved in finding a career field position or are they happy at McDees? That is the real issue; students do not become engaged in the process. This cannot be negated as a failure by CCi but by people because that is what we all are.

And lastly finger pointing usually ends up with stuff on the end of your finger. Those of you who complain, you know who you are and what you will find.

You lost me after: " ...career field degrees for those who want to be educated in a field not by taking High School Math to show they can add." Right like we need more workers and people in their personal lives who can't do basic math. uh huh and will pay $40,000 to avoid learning to add.

Corinthian Colleges is BY FAR the shadiest company I have ever worked for! It made me sick to know that students were putting their trust in us to do the right things and we were just screwing everyone over - students, taxpayers, society in general. I'm so glad to be out. CCi is evil!

There is NOTHING about CCi that is good for this country or the people in it, whether they be employees, students, potential employers, or taxpayers. This company is a massive fail on all counts! Incompetent as well as sleazy.

Free market, baby. You screw over students and behave unethically and eventually it will catch up with you. DOE is the voice of reason and the final authority here. Can you imagine how much worse CCI would be if they were allowed to continue doing what they're doing?

"CCi treated their students and staff poorly, and many, many of them complained." Isn't that supposed to be ok. No one should care if the students or employees are happy. http://www.thelayoff.com/corinthian-colleges/post/5184574912987136

I've been reading The Chronicle's 7/4 article and others while at home sick today. Do you know what every one has in common? They all state that CCi has long been considered "one of the worst actors" in the proprietary college industry. All of them also mention that they doubt that this action signals that ED is going to be coming down hard on the industry as a whole, since there are other chains that are considered far more reputable. CCi treated their students and staff poorly, and many, many of them complained. They complained to ED and to their states. At this point, the case against the company has been well made, and the only thing that is surprising is how long it took to lower the hammer. ED showed incredible restraint in this.

This country needs companies that will deliver on what they are being paid for. CCI fails to deliver the promise to their students, employees, investors and the taxpayers that provide 89.9% of their revenue. I agree that everyone should have access to the education to better their situation, but if the student does not come to class, do the work and make the effort, why does CCI continue to show them as present and pass them through the class that the student failed to attend and learn the material by doing the work? A responsible company would drop this student from the class and stop collecting the Department of Educations funding for this student. It is not on the student to collect the funding for the class and count themselves as present, pass the class and move on to the next one. CCI needs to own that issue, and deliver the promise that they make to the students who attends class, turns in the work on time and makes the effort to better themselves.

You can't be serious. They are preying on students who think they can compete with traditional students. CCI is not the victim here. They were going to close down and sell off schools before the government froze their funds remember? Now it just has to happen faster. This may benefit, you the taxpayer, it may wake up students and consumers about going into large debt for sub-par education. My cousin graduated from Everest with a degree in the medical field and could not find a job. Finally her uncle, had to rescue her and give her a job at his hospital and she was so behind the other recent grads it was ridiculous.
