BY collectively negotiating, not just pay but work conditions, you can help stop the micro management and harassing bs to get recommendations.

Of course UoP is against Unions but this is the time to act while they are fighting the other battles.

You would be helping yourselves, students(real ones) and Ultimately the reputation of the school.

Cam Kid & @ Annon007 you both are right... EA's are telemarketers! I fortunately do not work at UOP. I worked there for more than 8 years, got paid 80k to dial a phone and walk a student through a couple of applications. NOW... UOP has a service crew system where students cannot leave messages. Look up the definition for a call center Annon007!

As for the statement "EAs say whatever they can to get vulnerable potential students to sign up for classes, without ethical qualms" - many do but not where I was employed. We were so micromanaged that the Manger (who has been there like 13 years though she knew it ALL). She always says that we need to be coachable yet she has not once changed her unethical behavior when it came to enrolling students who could barely read at an 8th grade level. As for Apollo Compliance and Ethics - I filed a legitimate complaint about working alone on Saturdays (literally alone, in the building by myself) and could have been in some serious trouble if needed emergency assistance... During my interview Apollo Compliance treated me as though I had no intelligence.

Nobody put a gun to EAs heads to keep working at UOPX. EAs come here because they themselves lack the skills to work elsewhere earning comparable wages and benefits. EAs say whatever they can to get vulnerable potential students to sign up for classes, without ethical qualms. And as I said, if EAs could "dictate" their working conditions, they'd "dictate" to get a paycheck for doing nothing at all.

You right.Some will take advantage of no managers. Between VA money and government loans and pell grants why should EAs be bully? Do UT schools do this to admissions peeps, no they don't. Stop telling EAs how they do the job and peeps happy.

You can't have EAs "dictating" working conditions. Let me tell you what would be the typical working condition should the typical EA be able to "dictate" their work:

a) show up for work at 10 AM

b) gossip about coworkers and managers until 12 noon

c) get a 2-hour lunch break

d) come back at 2 PM and make a couple of contacts before leaving for the day.

And it's about pay, not working conditions. The reason these EAs are still here is because the pay they'd get at McD and Walmart is very low, without benefits. UOPX pays much better and gives benefits, including heath care, vacation, sick time, etc.

Camden Kid, is that you? When are you going to stop peddling the outdated union bs? I thought you were here belaboring to shutdown the for-profit colleges. I guess you're shifting priorities to unionization.

EAs are little more than telemarketers. Their compensation is much better than what they'd be otherwise getting at Walmart. Their jobs could be efficiently outsourced to The Philippines or some other place where people speak English without much of an accent.
