Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

There is rumor of a buyer.

If this is true, who do you think the buyer would be? Do you think this will provide a more positive outcome for everyone involved?

They announced today that EUO has a serious buyer lined up. They are not another school. They have already met with the Dept of ED about the sale. It is expected to take 6-8 months. They WILL be keeping employees of EUO to run the company after the sale is complete. There is no guarantee that every employee is needed but they will probably keep everyone initially.

If your director has not discussed this with you, then ask. We were told today.

Some people are just trying to create fear here. No business in their right mind is going to just walk into a business they bought and fire all the people. That would mean firing boatloads of institutional knowledge. ALL of these locations will have to undergo visits by accreditation agencies. The regional accredited schools would especially flip if suddenly every faculty member was terminated. Buyers will do what all buyers do... Take a period to evaluate the talent, get rid of those believe are not talented or can't handle the transition and keep the rest. There is data that shows which schools have performed well. That data will be utilized. The schools with more problems will see more turnover. All new owners will need DOE approval and there is not a chance in hell the DOE will Approve a new owner who is going to just turn around, fire everyone and create massive student upheaval.

Oh Anonymous20602, you silly goose, must you take everything so literally? Do you understand my point better if I say that when someone buys Heald they do not have 12 Presidents and support staff just waiting to hop onto those campuses once the ink is dry? In other words, because the schools need to keep running... Oh good grief. I don't need to explain good business sense here. You don't really care.

The buyer rumor is only for the Heald brand. Sorry Everest and Wyotech. I'm sure you'll get your buyer before 6 months

85 campuses won't be sold to one company. Lol...did all of you hope that's how it works.??? BWAHAHA!!!! Um...do you also think they will sell anything close to 85 campuses??? Oh god, are you really this desperate? WOW.

So you're saying that how this will go down is that the buyer will have 85 Campus Presidents hired and waiting for the sale to be final and they'll just kick out the current presidents? They'll have hundreds of admissions, finance, instructors, and career services staff ready and waiting too? I don't think so.

At some point, you folks need to see reality. NOBODY buys a failing POS and keeps the elements of its failure. ANY buyer will buy to pick the carcass and get rid of all CCI staff...management AND front line. Its easier and cheaper to install their own people asap instead of unteaching the CCI ways and practices. Any school already has staff they can place in your place and start their way without having to deal with you. Its over, realize it.

Sorry 20588! I thought you wrote private equity. My bad.

I'd love to see a private equity group clean up house and knock some sense and ethics into the operations, but I don't think it will happen. DOE has to approve all buyers, and why else would they want that authority unless they wanted to guarantee the buyer was affiliated with education?

I personally hope that CCi gets bought out by a private entity. In my opinion this would decrease most of the drama and political games thats plagued us for years. I know it wouldn't be as profitable but peace comes at a price. What do you Guys think? What would be the best case scenario for everyone involved?

Big wasn't so bad. Not a PC type of guy and a little wild, but it was only student money. We miss him. Jack on the other hand...

"Mr Big" is a fictional character made up by the trolls here. I think at first it was a pseudonym for Jack M., but now it clearly isn't since he's still at CCi.

I know it's speculation but I've been told that it could be Delta College. I guess we will find out soon enough. Good luck to all of us.

There is no frustrating reality...new buyer or not...ALL CCI employees are out of a job. Let it go, it is gone.

Who a buyer is will remain a rumor until a deal is done. That's the way it is. It's a frustrating reality.

Heard around the watercooler that the reason University of Phoenix hired Mr. Big was to possibly help with a purchase/takeover. Hope that jack@ss doesn't make that happen!

There were/are 7 that were in various stages of talk. one for profit, one non-profit and I don't know the make-up of the rest.

Rumors mean nothing until a sale is completed. But no. It's probably not going to end well for most employees, particularly if it's an already established school.
