Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

CCI students are the WORST in the industry.

Why would a potential buyer want to deal with 'students' that only want to supplement their welfare with stipend checks? They are not ready for college nor do they even care about learning or succeeding.

@27013 on ground our students DO NOT get stipend 98% of the time. There are NO excess funds for most unless military benefits.

Psychobabble - please only speak about things that you have knowledge of. Of COURSE you "authorize" stipend checks. To not do so is forbidden by financial aid regulations.

I work at an Everest College in the west. My students do not act like these you describe and they get decent jobs and some excellent jobs. btw, an employer called me on my cell phone Sunday evening for a references on a graduate. I think we go the extra mile at our campus. We also do not authorize stipend checks.

What I find the most sad is that at any other traditional school, pre-admissions testing determines whether or not a student needs ESL courses (Everest has no such testing nor courses in place) and also has a department for students with learning disabilities. For ECPO, these students are simply lumped into the "developmental" category, which is not only morally and ethically wrong, they are not learning the necessary material. Shameful.

I don't mind what they have to do in their jobs. I have to call my students for the ground schools. I respect what they need to do and I try to be a good student to them. The irony. Yes, I am learning because I want to learn.

Anonymous26935- One instructor suggested that the students just read the book on their own and all is good.

26912, 26920, 26922: Well said! 26924, I'm interested to find out if you were able to learn anything in your courses, especially during the last 6 months since outreach has become the instructors' focus?

I am a student for Everest University online and I work for the company. I did obtain an associates degree from community college in my town. I transferred my credits to receive a bachelors from Everest University. I have to work full time and I am not on welfare. Every one knows that Everest employees do not receive a stipend check. I do read my assignments and participate because I want this. But, now that I am almost finish, what will it be worth? It stinks.

At real schools, my job is to TEACH. At Everest Online, my job is to ignore students that want to learn and do OUTREACH for those that could care less. Oh and I spend time recording each f***ing transaction into a slow, outdated database. Student experience for those that want to learn is low because I have to focus on idiots that will never succeed ever! I have never been so micromanaged in my life. The PD and PL don't care about anything but OUTREACH numbers. I asked to recognize excellent students previously, but was told there is nothing available. Yet when they can get a student to post a simple hello to trigger attendance and avoid being dropped, they pat themselves on the back and can't stop sharing the Outreach Success Story with other management and instructors.

Many of these CCI students have failed out of other schools. CCI gets all the failures and makes it a free for all for them (ie. Open enrollment, no test for basic reading and writing skills, post a 'hi' to the discussion every 14 days to show attendance, submit up to 2.5 months of a 3 month class near the end of a class, cuss at anyone calling you, disrespect your instructors and fellow students, plagiarize and not get punished, and so on). This shit is not allowed at real schools. That's why they failed.

Even if there is no buyer, the students will be scrambling to find their next joke school in order to continue their stipend checks!

They are horrendous. Don't forget that no one will be acting like a babysitter for those failing or not attending at any real college. Instructors are there to teach, not perform excessive Outreach.

I would feel really bad for any school that has to indirectly absorb these studeny baffoons (such as a community college). But at least they will conduct placement tests and force remedial courses for the unprepared. This would eliminate 99% of CCI students since they are not accustomed to passing any tests or take no credit remedial courses. Also for those placed in a class, they would be subject to higher standards in terms of rigor (they will actually be expected to read and write above the kindergarten level), attendance, participation, and late work (not the laughable 9 weeks allowed by end of Week 11 garbage). They will be dropped like flies, lose their financial aid, and go back to watching Springer!
