Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Rather than have students sign waivers to give up tutoring, they should require students attend tutoring weekly until they start passing the cla

BEFORE they get their next stipend. I bet participation will go up to at least 60%. And most students need it anyway. Just a thought from an instructor who would like to see his students pass their classes.

This is bs. Most students can't read or write so they are incapable of signing their names. Must be a fake signator. Most are homeless and don't even have real addresses. Good thing we get all the money they "signed" for. Hahahahahaha.

Omg! Is that true? I tell students it's a service they're paying for in their tuition and they should take advantage of it!! Nobody's said anything about not being able to get it, although I suspect they aren't even bothering to try.

I heard that somewhere, too. I don't know if it's all students or what. But I tell my students all the time anyway to get tutoring. I even regularly post the link in my threads (I'm online.)

This is the first I have heard of this, I tell my students to use the tutoring center and writing center all the time. I am shocked that they would have them sign waivers saying they will not use the services! I have never had a student tell me that they have been told to sign that waiver.

90% of our students need tutoring. It's a Shane if that's true and they cannot get it.

I've been told they sign waivers stating they won't use tutoring services. I don't know how many or why. Maybe they have the department to make it look good but don't want to spend money to man it.

27122: Why do they need waivers? Are they ATB students? Great!

Is the tutoring department just a front or a shell? I ask my students ALL the time to get it. None ever has. I have no idea who is in tutoring department.

118, There are 2 types of students who fail. Those who do not do the work and those incapable of doing the work because they can't read and write at a college level. BOTH would benefit from tutoring. (Or, at least the threat of it might get the non participants in the classroom.) Yet, they have students sign waivers not to get tutoring. It's insane.

Unfortunately, you can't withhold stipend checks. The funds are designed to help students with their living expenses while they are attending. Once they fail to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress, you can cut them off. Not that we do. It's simply a rubber stamped "appeal" process like attendance and everything else.
