I would test that theory for yourself. I think you may not come to the same conclusion.
GT clarified this at the town hall. No worries, Amazon only carries a few titles compared to the wide selection that Follett has. Thats a relief.
Technically Amazon is not selling...they are distributing. This does not violate the contract
Amazing, the only time Follett gets mentioned in a news article, it is about Follett high prices and bringing in Amazon to lower the cost to students.
Interesting that they can complete with Follett, don't we have a contract with the school?

Maybe they are retaliating over the lawsuit by National Association of College Stores in which the association claims Amazon could not prove its claims that it can save students up to 30% off new textbooks and up to 90% off used ones.

First Amazon buys the Kiva bots system so Follett has to pay Amazon to keep the ADC running. Follett has to pay Amazon to deliver books at the start up of the ADC disaster (and slapping the students in the face with a $1.00's worth of ramen noodles to say we're sorry you poor smucks). And now Amazon is partnering with independent stores to give great services and products to their students. While Follett is laying off the associates that built years of trust and knowledge with the universities and replacing them with part time/no benefit associates who don't give a st. So who is delusional? Drink the Kool-aid, drink the Kool-aid!

I can't find anything. I'll have to ask a friend who knows the bookstore manager very well. That's the key, here. The bookstore is University owned. One of Amazon's champion's is the bookstore manager. The university owned bookstore delivers many services to the campus, no the least of which is student jobs. What this manager appears to have done is help negotiate the fee that Amazon will pay the university and the terms under which they'll do business on campus. Here is another area where Follett fails. They don't play nicely with others (see the bookstore manager's comment in the Cal story. She acted like she was happy to be freed from the burden of working with the ASUC). Once again, Follett has failed to dictate the terms of the fight.
Any news/reports on how the amazon program at Davis is working out?
27573, how are you defining "this battle". If Amazon's goal is to claim 20% of the bookstore's business, how does Follett win? If Amazon is successful at taking 20% in a year's time, and Follett has no answer for year two, how much more will Amazon win in year two? Follett has failed to dictate the terms of battle. Follett has already lost.
