Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

punishing for-profit, rewarding non-profit

Political donations from educational unions representing Kindergarten teachers through the American Association of University Professors have gone by almost 100% to Obama’s Democrat Party. Donations come from dues and wield enormous power. For-profit colleges hire instructors often also still working in their fields and thoroughly uninterested in joining unions.

For a politician stuck on “fairness,” Mr. Obama hasn’t written any into his punitive rules for career college graduates. Demanding immediate employment in a weak economy created by his own bad economic policies and only for a targeted cohort of students is … well … disgraceful. And painfully ironic.

Public and private colleges rely heavily on taxpayer subsidies to keep the doors open; for-profit schools do not receive state or federal subsidies and depend on tuition, direct or through aid. When Obama slipped the federal takeover of student loans into Obamacare, he set the wheels in motion for his ability to control access to student loan funding.

Now we know why. And it must be stopped.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, $8.7 billion of the money collected in student loan interest payments actually goes to pay for ObamaCare. The CBO estimates that the interest rate on these loans could be reduced from 6.8 percent to only 5.3 percent were the funds not used to subsidize the healthcare reform law and other federal programs.

Yes,CCI has quite a few issues, but to say that universities aren't doing similar things, well that would be naive. Has anyone heard of the ncaa. They routinely side step their own rules to "help" a well deserving athlete. Or the student who sleeps with a professor, for aa passing grade.

"When Obama slipped the federal takeover of student loans into Obamacare..." What? Do you have ANY idea of what you're talking about?

There is a valid point to be made about the different set of rules that DOE imposes on for-profit vs. not for profit. Non profits - supported by tax dollars - are not scrutinized for graduation or placement rates. That said, I also can not recall a non-profit that so badly corrupted the student loan and education process, all in the name of revenue. For-profit schools brought the increased scrutiny on themeselves by their own very bad behavior. At the end of the day, CCI offers little or no value to students or employers. In a market economy, that is a death sentence.

Poor, poor CCI. You are the poor, poor victim of a big old government conspiracy. Your downfall has nothing to do with alleged crimes, predatory practices, and greed. You poor, poor thing.

It's not the government. It is the zombies who are at fault. They should never have been allowed to join our population and grow within our communities.

This is bullshit. Go find a board that doesn't know the inner workings of CCI. They might buy your nonsense.

You've obviously have no connection to CCI. CCI is a for profit that should be closed. I'm a current employee. They enroll students who cannot read it write at a level that cannot withstand college level work. Their classes are 35 students. Most instructor time is spent on Outreach, rather than teaching. They encourage students to take out as much money as possible. They only care about the money. They don't give lifetime career services, though they advertise it. They claim an 80% retention rate. It might be 50%. They mislead potential students and are possibly committing crimes to keep this school running. It has NOTHING to do with Obama. They've found a way to use every rule to their advantage for $. And it's been at the expense of students and lower level employees. You won't find an employee on this board who believes CCI is somehow a victim. They're not. And they use more money than Yale to lobby. That's while they're still open, probably.

Yes, thy corrupt want to do what they have always been doing. When they are caught, it is always someone else's fault. Poor CCI, a for-profit corporation that is now being held accountable.

I'm a republican teaching at CCi. This message does not seem at all convincing to me. CCi is why some regulations are a necessary evil.

Are you a current employee of CCI? Your comments surely doesn't sound like it because if you did work for CCI - EVER - then you would know better.
