Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

We're being sued for harassing students.

Does that mean we don't have to do "outreach" anymore?

I agree with the OP. Outreach by academics is directly tied to perpetuating the student loan and cycle of debt which benefited COCO for so long. Asses in classes was directly correlated with cash flow.

I got it! It was above many others. I certainly won't be waiting for the students to answer the phone, just making quick calls. If they PIP me next quarter, I'll consider myself lucky I had one more quarter. I truly believe the next quarter will be the last, if we even make that one!

Seems pointless now to outreach.

I'm the OP. I apologize. I wasn't trying to get anyone mad. I was trying (apparently unsuccessfully) to use humor to point out the similarities between harassing calls from a collection agency and outreach calls to students who don't want to participate in class. The goal of both is to collect money from the student either directly (the loan collection agency)or indirectly (through Title IV loans).

130, that pdf letter is debt collection. Outreach is something instructors do. Outreach has NOTHING to do with debt collection. They are completely separate in completely separate departments. Outreach is when instructors reach out to students. I have no idea who does debt collection. But it's not me. As an instructor, I can tell you that we know nothing about students' financial status, financial loan status, or really any personal information. Outreach has to do with retention and grades. It has zero to do with student debt.

Here's a government letter dated 9/16 explaining why they are suing us for harassing students.

I know I FEEL like some sleazy debt collector hassling my students to try to get them to log in.

We're being sued for predatory LOANS. That's got zero to do with outreach. Do your homework, instructor.

Guess that means it'll be harder for debt collectors like ECMC to purchase us?

I think Outreach will be ending soon. And so will instructing.

Outreach is NOT illegal. I think you're confused. Can you post a link?

Sorry, but it debt collection practices, not attempts to get students to class.
