Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Anyone else apparently required to work during your furlough?

So we were instructed to do NO work during furlough, even checking emails is supposedly off limits. So why have I already gotten two calls today to "fill me in" on student situations I've been involved in. So I can be bothered during my furlough and am expected to log in and research if I can't remember every detail about an individual student's aid? Again, two calls today on two different students. is this happening to anyone else, or do I just have a total asshole as a supervisor?

Call Patrick Fitzgerald's office immediately (the monitor appointed by the DOE). He has offices in both Chicago and New York. Make him aware. His office was very interested in the retaliation I've been subjected to in the past month. I'm sure they'd like to know that, once again, CCi believes its above the rules.

Lol! Use the money you're not making and hire a lawyer!!! I'm sure they'll give you free advice over the phone, if you give out some free FA advice!! That's hilarious!

539- Much easier to be a "team player" when the spoils are shared.

I would agree with 539 if we replace the word "student" with "Title IV loan."

This is a serious question? It's a joke!!! Yeah I'm on a furlough not getting paid, but feeling like I should respond to work? Funny!!! Lol!

OP sounds like someone who's probably on a PIP and doesn't realize time is running out for you. I mean, jeez, would it kill you to be a team player and just a little bit student centered? They ARE our customers, and maybe one of them wanted an answer that you could help provide. At Socle, we had a new BA walk out after a day when he found out he'd be expected to regularly work evenings and weekends. We're not like some traditional bureaucratic university where people can work 9-5. We're student centered and expected to be committed enough to our customers to be willing to go the extra mile. I worked a couple of hours a day from my hotel room in Mexico during my vaca. I was happy to do it!

Don't respond. It's the supervisor's problem, not yours.

It's my understanding that if you work during voluntary time off, they have to pay you. Why are you feeling obligated anyway?

Tell your supervisor that you will "fill her in on the student" when you arrive next week, if she is working both weeks for 50%. Otherwise you will take care of it in two weeks, when both of you are working on the same day.

If your supervisor is calling you this week, that may trigger a requirement that you must be paid. Check with a local employment law attorney. Ask about the Fair Labor Standards Act.

It's possible they don't know you are on furlough. Don't respond. You are not allowed to work. If you can't login, there's nothing you can do anyway.
