Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

My enrollment in the one class I teacher went from 32 to 22. I guess word is getting around.

I sure as heck wouldn't spend another dime at Everest if I was a student. Lets be honest and real, any classes and degree are worthless at this point. The students are either using the us for funds, or we are using them for funds. The honest good student should run fast and go to a real college if possible, if not pick a solid for profit school, and yes I know they are rare. I can't believe the VA still funds here and the Feds still throw money at Everest. They need to stop and send these students elsewhere. I don't care if I lose my part time adjunct job, I'm tired of the charade.

I teach online and I haven't see big numbers dropping. A few but nothing that is higher than before.

I had 32 in one class and 32 in another. Now I have 13 in one and 9 in the other. This has never happened before.

I have several students who should be dropped for not attendance who are not. I started with 25 students in an online class and now have 23. I have 3-4 more students who have not attended in weeks but are still enrolled in the class.

OP - Has your enrollment OFFICIALLY dropped to 22? I thought student services/financial services was making it hard/impossible for students to withdraw. Perhaps the heightened scrutiny from the feds is maing a difference.

I think that the more students talk with one another, the more fearful they will become about their future in the schools. I don't believe most students on their own do any type of research on our schools before they sign up, or there would be even fewer students. So, I just don't believe independent of fellow students, most students even know what's going on. But, rumors will persist, like if they quit, they'll be forgiven for loans and things like that. Obviously, some information will be wrong and they'll be misinformed. They shouldn't quit in the middle of a term, because they'll have to pay the $ back regardless. But, should they come back after this term? Personally, I wouldn't. But, it's nearly impossible to transfer from for profit to for profit with any credits that transfer. (For profits don't make money doing that, do they?) Then again, it's entirely possible that students who wanted out anyway will just use this as the excuse to quit. I've heard far crazier excuses for not coming to class.

I've had 25 students and ended with 23. I've had 27 students and ended with 17. I don't believe it's at all a reflection of our ability as an instructor.

272, it's ALWAYS that crazy week 4 time period. Poof. Gone! And then it's 8 weeks of Outreach for nothing.

271: yeah, it's different. They usually drop a few around Week 4 and that's it, no matter how little they've participated.

Is that attrition rate different than prior terms at the same relative point in time? Any other instructors with thoughts on comparison to other terms?
