Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

They're finally starting to ask questions...

I had been wondering why none of my students had been questioning all the bad news and poor publicity about CCI. Today I'm finally starting to get emails from students saying they're dropping due to all the things they've heard in the news, inability to contact the school, and being told lies. It's very sad. I can't even off them kind words anymore, since they're not in the course and I'm afraid to use my CCI email to contact them. Very very sad. Have any other instructors had students contact them?

@ 38090 It's obvious that you don't work in student services or you would know that we are not lying to the students. If students ask me questions about what is going on, I read the statement they were sent because that is a legal document that was sent to the students. If students are talking about dropping, then I will tell them the truth. I will tell them to speak with FA to see if they owe anything, that they will have to return their laptop, and if they should return they will start the re-enrollment process over again. When the hear they have to return their laptops, then they usually decide to stay. It's sad! I don't guilt anyone into staying or tell them lies and I have not heard anyone on our team lie to them either. My students are still dropping and most of them on the 7/14 day list cannot be reached anyway. It's also hard to harass students when their numbers are not in service!!! Part of our job is retention. We are told not to let more than one student drop a week. Sorry, but I lose 5 students a week on average. The bottom line is that we are all still at CCI because we need a job. I am not proud to be at CCI like I used to be, but it doesn't mean that I am not honest to our students. I still give them quality service because that is who I am. So, instead of making stupid and uninformed comments maybe you should check the facts or try doing the job in student services yourself.

A student told me that she find out about the hoopla by searching class info on the web, and she landed on this site, I am not sure how it's possible but try to search for corinthian colleges and this place comes up third

Don't worry, re-entry will begin contacting them the day after the drop.

You're right, 107. I'm just a lowly instructor.

103 - Believe it or not, many of us actually give a damn about our students.

Who cares about the students? I am just worried about my paycheck. Sounds like your outreach is a real success!

I have only had one student email me about all the problems and they worked at EUO. She knew what was going on because of the job. I am surprised that more students don't ask about it. I guess they either don't care or don't know.

083, despite what's going on, instructors will be held liable. However, deep cuts have to be made anyway. If there's another term, there are still too many instructors.

38083 -- probably best that Student Services are furloughed. All they would do is lie and harass the student by any means to stop them dropping. They belittle and degrade the students, threaten them with owing "big money", repeat the same lame statements over and over, and if all else fails they simply refuse to let the student drop. Anything to keep the Title IV.

It's bad. I've had more drops in the last two weeks than I ever have historically at this point in the term. They know something's up.

I've just started getting questions from my students as well. None of them say they're dropping...yet. I've taught at my school over 15 years and always worked hard to teach my students what they needed to learn. It's frustrating because they look to me for answers, and I have none. When I ask for information to give them, I'm told there is nothing to say and to be patient.

I'm sure of that too, 083. As much as the students are in control of their own fate, no one deserves to be lied to.

I'm sure you'll be blamed for the losses... Does it matter that upper management furloughed the people the students are trying to contact?
