What skills and characteristics you need to have to be a Manager at UOP?

I recently joined in Admissions and I'd like to advance and become manager one day. I am not aware of any other employee forum so here is my question on layoff.com - What skills and characteristics you need to have to be a Manager at UOP? I appreciate any response. Thank you in advance and God Bless.

As a former manager and employee, I learned you must do your directors homework and other remedial tasks associated with their job. Even then, once you stop kissing these pussies a$$, you still get phucked in the end of the game. Isn't that right David? You are a joke you West clown.

Would love to know what positikn you were actually hired for, because admissions has has not gained one person for 7 yrs... Only losing people left and right. There is no promotion, just attrition. 50 ppl doing the work of 100+... So what dept are you REALLY in????

Dear Pollyanna--First hire managers with integrity and an understanding of higher education. Next, embrace real change and tolerate dissent and open inquiry in the workplace. UOP does derive in excess of 90% of its revenue from Title IV and VA benefits. Stop the boiler room tactics and sleazy micromanagement. Stop equivocating and manipulating your employees; this doesn't happen at legitimate universities.

So you want to be a manager..... First off do your job, you don't have to be the best but you do have to be good at your job. Second, (at UOPX) work on being well liked by the managers and Directors (popularity really works here). Don't piss off anyone who matters, piss off anyone who doesn't matter (you have to figure who the two groups are). People posting and griping a lot here are the ones who don't matter. Third, talk to your manager and their manager about your desire to promote and ask what they think you should do to prepare yourself for the opportunity. Finally, stick around, with all the people quitting and getting laid off there should be some opening soon. Good luck!

Learn to micromanage....that seems to be the key! Make sure you ask your top reps the same question in every one on one multiple times. It won't drive them crazy at all. Feel free to leave mid day for hours on end and go to the gym.

Have sex with your director.( regardless of sexual preference or gender)

Tell your current manager they are smart.

Flash mob when asked.

Wear red socks.

An easy way to advance is have an Aunt that is high up in the ranks.
