Kmart gave me my start, and after more than 20 years of hard work and loyalty as a support manager, I was told I was being "Downsized" because Walmart several blocks away was taking too much profit away from our Kmart. No severance, nothing. Oh, sorry...on my last day ,.at the last minute during a routine morning meeting, the mgr. sent for a small cake for me. They spelled my name wrong. This all happened not long after Sears and Kmart merged. What is interesting to note, the manager that let me go, and another support manager I worked with jumped ship last year and went to work for another "Big Box" company. The store manager just walked out on Christmas eve. No warning to anyone. Nice.

After the Sears merge with Kmart. Kmart Employees were the worst to suffer. Most were fired and replaced by Sears employees that were to be promoted. I am surprised they got rid of a Sears employee at that time. Downsizing was and still is typical of the excuse to fire along with the at will form they had you sign
which states they can fire us for any reason except discrimination. This At Will form has killed the spirit
of the work place and nation to know work as hard as you are willing but when favoritism, cronyism, and nepotism comes to play, you are a dog left to your own means of survival.I think At this time Kmart is in search of the cheapest employees not neccessarily the best.
K,mart / Sears doesn't care about anybody. A store that's been permanently laying off long term 20, 30, 40 year term (a jail sentence by the way is shorter)employees for sometime now with the only excuse as a dissolved job only then to create a new one for a younger less expensive employee only cares about the money and whats going to keep them alive in the long hall.A store that used to be the heart and soul of the community, has become the place where you drop your kids off for a couple of hours babysitting and then go shop at Walmart and spend some real money. I know this for a fact as I know of an employee that got permanently laid off.In other words Kmart/Sears used up all you had to give now your 40, 50, 60 so now your gone. No partys no Sad Goodbyes.Insurance on the Cobra is now sky high and you can't afford it they say Sign this saying you won't talk about us and we'll let you retire peacefully.Good luck with a new job because statistics say once left go you have a 50/50 chance in 99 weeks of unemployment after that your window is dead. They might as well put you in the ground and cover you with dirt because in there eyes you are dead to the company and everyone else. So this is where they get my title as the store without a heart.
they probably made your manager let you go, so, he got fed up and he quit. i would not be surprised. that was probably not the only reason, but things like this add up. i am retired now but i used to be a mgr, i let many people go, some deserved it and some i had to let you. typically you get pressured from folks above you to make the cut, so that's what he had to do to survive. it wears on you.
