Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Don't buy into the troll kool-aid, TB FL employees

I don't know what the goal is, but there have been raving lunatics on this board for at least three months (how long I've been dropping by) telling everyone to bail and the sky is falling. If you work in Tampa Bay (mall, etc) you don't need to be in any rush. Our job market is really good right now: http://www.tampabay.com/news/business/workinglife/report-deems-tampa-the-third-best-city-in-the-country-to-find-a-job/2168479. So just take their Chicken Little routine with a grain of salt and ask yourself "Who is this person really? What is their goal in posting this?"

Great. In addition to Pollyanna and Chicken Little, we now also have a posting by a verified psychic.

Let's see.....furloughs, pay cuts, severe cost-containment measures, lay-offs,criminal investigations, law suits, states restricting enrollemnt, DOE restricting funding, VA shutting off funds.... Now - what can you offer, OP, in terms of FACTUAL information that would cause a rational person to think things are going to be OK? The agreement last week simply means we dodged a big bullet....for now. So just take the OP's Pollyanna routine with a grain of salt and ask yourself "Who is this person really? What is their goal in posting this?" Sometimes, the sky really IS falling.

I'm in TB and can personally testify that the job market is brutal right now! I've been looking since June and really been put through the wringer. The couple of offers I've had gave me a really bad feeling, so I'm still looking and hoping to find something I can live with long-term. Beware the job offers that seem too easy, there are a lot of predatory employers in our area.

Anonymous41262: Correct - you have nothing to fear except the other 2,000 area CCi employees cut loose on the job market at the same time and with similar skill sets and experience. Keep your rosy glasses on, but the post-recession economy means jobs that pay less and expect more of you. To get a shot at one of the rare decent ones, you need to be looking aggressively...NOW!

41265 - the Chicken Littles have been acting like the end is near. Like things will get worse and worse, but we've had a couple of temporary measures and already knew we would have to cut back a bit to get through this. Is 10% honestly that big a deal?

So... Pay cuts and furlough aren't reason to panic..? Sure sounds like the sky starting to fall to me.

I agree 100%. Just don't panic and keep doing your job. You might be surprised to find it works out a lot better than you thought it would. In a worst-case scenario, you go out and get another job with unemployment to fill in the gap. You have nothing to fear but fear itself.
