EDMC on your Resume a Liability?

Given all the bad press, lawsuits, undercover videos, disappointing students posting on numerous forums and YouTube, do you think it will be harder to get another job with all that negative baggage attached to your resume?

In theory, we should not be judged that way, but that is not how the real world works. Like Hollywood, you are only as good as your last movie. Worked on a stinker, no one wants to hire you even if it's not your fault. It's been going on for years if you think about it. Not some fluke.

Flashforward to late 2016 and look where EDMC is today! It s a joke! The laughing stock of "higher learning"! The 99¢ ONLY Stores of for-profits! 18 out of 50 campuses closing & counting. EDMC stock is at $0.01. EDMC on your resume will hurt you tremendously! Good luck countering all the negatives involved with EDMC during interviews.

To anyone who works or has ever worked with EDMC, I wish you nothing but the WORST! You are worm sh!t!!! Parasites! Losers with no real life skills, aside from lying & ruining young financial lives! You will end up selling vacuums door to door or even worst, at a used-car lot! Hey a$$hole, I said I wanted my stuff in paper in plastic! Get used to those words! The gravy train tracks have ran out for you! Next stop...UNEMPLOYMENT!!!

Vic? Levi? Carla? Who are these people everybody is referring too? Which campus do these people work for? Why are people talking so negatively about them?

Hey Outsider! I work for the company as an Academic Advisor. I'm not in a decision making position and look out for my students best interest whether my managers like it or not. I'm here to support them and make a living to feed my family. Not all of us are out using poor reqruiting practices. Before you judge everyone at the company it may be handy to be more informed. We are told daily that what we do matters since we help the students and can't control what the gready people in leadership positions do. I used to love it here now it makes me sick to see what it turned into ethically. That's why I still fight for myself, my students and looking for other jobs in a more ethical company.

I dont work for EDMC but as an outsider, knowing what I have read online I would question what roll you played if you were a decision maker. Did you know things were bad? Did you read about it in the paper? Did you speak up? Did you do something about it? Have any documentation of that action? You didn't know about a 11 Billion dollar fraud lawsuit in your own company? Those are legitimatize questions that would tell me what kind of employee you would be.

Look it's all about who you know or who you blow to get into the higher positions such as Carla, Levi and Vic. I guess cheating on your wife Vic while she was pregnant was well worth it. Very disgusting and wouldn't be surprised to see South crumble!

Lets be honest, all of those rvps managed to get to where they are from their buddy system and its no secret Levi got to where he is by his girlfriend and surely not talent. Congratulations you can sleep your way to the top too. Isnt it obvious why this place is ran so inefficiently! Vic howd you get to where you are? Haha! Plus please it was all about a pretty face that got you somewhere when Carla moved up. When are they going to put true leaders who care about the student and the employees in those roles? Anyone?? Um... try never! They dont need a restructure of the company... they need a makeover of management. Fiflth pure filth.

The training is actually pretty good. Learning is up to the person receiving the message though. I definitely do not agree with their business model or constant RIF's, benefit reductions, micro-managing approach, etc. however, take advantage of all the EDMC University offers and use it as resume fodder. Don't let the bitterness keep you from bettering yourself regardless of who is offering the instruction.

Actually, as far as skills go...EDMC employees are looked at by other schools as highly skilled and trained. Most locations (especially online) have continual trainings and coachings. The biggest issue will be so many looking for work at the same time :(

28750 Calling people idiots does not make you sound very professional or intelligent.

People are scared.

Leave them alone.

I have to agree with Anonymous28750. I work with online faculty - A number of them are top notch. And we are all gaining skillsets in this emerging field that other faculty elsewhere don't have available. No one I know blames us for the company's mismanagement. In the end it is how you brand and market yourself.

You're all idiots!

Why would being employed at EDMC look bad. I am a former EDMC employee and I was able to find a good job after I left. Additionally, I know many people that left EDMC and got very promising positions.

I am now in a hiring position at a Fortune 500 company, and wouldnt think twice about interviewing a current/former EDMC employee. We hire the best candidate. EDMC has a strong training, challenging schedules and to be successful you must have a good work ethic.

It appears that there is many "bitter" ex employees on this site.

There are really good people that still work there. I pray this we end with something positive for both , staff and student

28674: I've never worked for EDMC and am embarrassed for anyone who does. I work in higher ed part time, just watching train wreck from sidelines. (28600). If the fact you make more money than others knowing 30k students from your schools will default on their loans helps you sleep at night, then you are much stronger than most. Good luck to you and your arrogance while job searching.

28600: don't be mad because those of us who weren't fired from here, unlike you, make more money than you! And you know what's a liability on your resume? Having no degree. And being unemployed for a long time. Having a job is never a liability and the fact that you asked this question shows why you will likely have a hard time finding a job anywhere!

I know work with some ex EDMC ers and they work fine. It's almost like they've been to hell already and appreciate a solid company that has a mission of not destroying lives. If you haven't been there that long, and have skills that are in demand, I think you will be fine. If you have been there more than five or are in a senior position, yes, it will hurt you. EDMC is not thought of highly in Pittsburgh, it's well known people who end up there are those who can't cut it anywhere else. I mean, why else would they be employed there?

The issue isn't the company (I've gained immense experience here in over 10 years) The issue is the job market overall in education. There are only adjunct positions, and maybe some consulting.

I left them off my resume, but I didn't work there that long. Rather have a short gap in my work history then all that negative controversy becoming part of an interview.
