Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Purge continues

Two employees with combined experience of 40 years no longer with the company. Slowly but surely they will drive out the tenured employees. GT has thoroughly screwed up wholesale and profits will suffer.

Sure I'd want to cut a deal but I wouldn't bend over to earn it. So many are really being unbelievable these days with their actions in order to keep their jobs. I think it would be hysterical if these people were let go for being unethical even if it were at the request of their boss. That would be supreme! They think they are helping their manager and wammo you broke the ethics policy. Bye Bye

"I would bet JL knew he was out and worked out some sort of deal.", isn't that what we all want?

Most honorable salesperson you know? Wow...That must be a customer JL took out often. Trust me he wasn't all that. A relationship guy...sure. Most honorable, think again. Don't kid yourselves, I would bet JL knew he was out and worked out some sort of deal.

How many total employees have been laid off in the past two years at all divisions? Close to 1,500?

The spin GT and DG put on used book inventory is outrageous. We don't have better quality inventory.

1st, the grass IS greener. MLS and her senior management team have turned Follett into the scorched earth. So how many slim jims do you have to sell to equal the ROI of one used book? MLS, DG, DF and FO have done every stupid thing to cripple wholesale. JL must have just been fed up. Apparently the family and the board can't do the math and see what's happening. CF and CT could see it and they bailed - they tried long enough and they are wealthy enough. All sales are relationship built. JL is going to write Follett's epitaph. The geniuses from Sears and Kfart have delivered what? Drink the Kool-Aid, drink the Kool-Aid!

Time will tell but I expect many used books to shift from Follett to MBS. Look at the results for the wholesale division prior to when it was ruined by GT, DG and ML.

Not every employee loss should be perceived as a horrific event

JL is a class act and very well respected in the industry. He is a relationship guy and the most honorable sales person I have worked with . Huge loss for Follett.

In fact, every time I come to this site, there are Follett competitors advertising to buy used books.

JL was a relationship guy, and did very well at that in the college bookstore industry. Follett will miss him and decline as the relationships move to MBS. Of course MBS is not a greener pasture in a dying pasture. Worse they are in our pasture and will now be taking more of that shrinking pasture. Shrinking industry causes competitors to be more aggressive with whats left, until they start to leave the market. Sales and profits both shrink until competitors exit the market. Why do you think the only thing you hear from DG and ML is clothing, general mdse, endless aisle. They know text has no future, and unfortunately they are hastening its decline.

Wholesale still drives profitability. Why do you think everyone from packback.com to amazon wants to acquire used books. Used books are king. Go ahead, mess with the bluebook, hide bluebook prices, get rid of all tenured wholesale employees - see what you have left.

I will not miss JL. He had (when I knew him ) an inflated sense of self. This is one where years of service and added value are at odds (IMO ). MBS is not exactly greener pastures.
