Workers Need to Speak Up and Resist

A former EA tells me that management encouraged EAs to sign up people they knew couldn't finish. The former EA says many of the students quit once they received their first Pell Grant disbursement. This sound very close to fraud and an abuse of Title IV funds. The former EA says that no one will say anything because they make too much money to make waves. If you are a principled person know about this environment, speak up and do the right thing. And if no one will listen contact Aaron Glantz...http://cironline.org/person/aaron-glantz

Everything that you said is accurate. There is no smoking gun. People actually are able to make up their own minds about how much they borrow. Also wish Camden could see the litany of contact attempts from EAs, ACs, and even FAs to reach people and intervene when people aren't posting or are failing class. Often those calls go straight to voicemail and are never returned. But that is somehow the fault of unprincipled enrollment representatives who explain all of this to students. We are even required to take them through a detailed interactive presentation on responsible borrowing and repayment before they start classes.

They don't give a damn if the student is experiencing financial hardship, can't do college course work for a developmental disability, there isn't a right program for them. Managers just tell EAs to enroll, and then managers puke out the lies from senior leadership regarding being an open enrollment institution, etc. Most of these for-profits might be just that, but whatever happened to business ethics? Most managers are either high school graduates or for-profit grads, people who are easily manipulated by senior management because they have no critical-thinking skills, nor do they possess a trace of empathy. In fact, they are sycophants and sociopaths, perfect group think automatons.

@Anonymous29083, Apollo Group has their names. Maybe they should let the Department of Education know.

Those students need to be prosecuted. Dahn, get their names and drop a dime on them.

officials multi-million dollar salaries and bonuses with mostly taxpayer money?

This is shameful. All of these schools need to be right-sized and many should be shuttered.

Camden Kid, I have enjoyed reading your post in the past. You seem very dedicated to the ideas of fairness and justice; however, your most recent post is unfair. First, as a former EA let me state that we cannot always tell which student will continue with the program and which will drop. Along with this, we are not allowed to discriminate, profile, or favor one type of potential student over another; therefore, we can only advise the student to the best of our ability of his or her financial obligations when receiving financial aid. We are not willfully, subliminally, or maliciously advising students to misuse their financial aid. Second, EA’s have a very limited role in a student’s financing. It is the Finance Adviser who is responsible for the student’s financial aid and even they have trouble with deceitful students. Please remember, for every student that drops out, UoP loses money. In addition a dropout counts against the EA’s, FA’s, and Academic Counselor’s retention score so it does not profit anyone when a student drops.

It is true that EA’s are pushed to enroll students AND to retain those students but it is unfair to imply we are not “principled” people. There are those who will disagree with me and my post but not because of right or wrong but because of their disdain for the way management and the executives of UoP (Apollo Group) mismanaged, raped, and abused the school’s money. They ripped all of us off – student and employee. Keep the fire on their ass and help us bring them to light and hold them accountable.
