Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Tired of the Lack of Transparency

The lack of information from management is not surprising, but disappointing. I am adjunct faculty, and feel that we should be informed along with the students and other employees, even if this means daily e-mails. I am new to this college, but will be leaving soon due to the lack of respect given to employees and students. I feel like a fraud encouraging students in a worthless, over-priced degree from a school that has such an uncertain future. The curriculum is better suited to an elementary student. I'm done. I wish you all the best.

616, I think it's the most ridiculous curriculum. It's so easy and try just make it easier. I teach online Comp classes. In Comp I, the first assignment is a 5-7 sentence paragraph explaining why you wanted to come to Everest. There is no graded assignment for week 2. The third assignment is a revision if Week 1 paragraph. Nobody ever, ever revises. So, basically in The first 3 weeks if class, there's 7 sentences dues, plus an open book quiz and the threads. It's barely high school level. I've taught at many other places, and I've never seen such an easily curriculum. The students aren't challenged and don't learn anything. I hate teaching narratives in a comp class. They are basically useless. I think in the entire class, a student writes less than 10 pages total. It's a joke.

It's hard to know what curriculum is appropriate for this demographic. I don't think it's too inappropriate, but I'd be interested in hearing the opinions of other faculty.

I don't think anyone is getting any information. I haven't heard from management in a week

Or so. They used to treat adjuncts like faculty. Maybe it's changing because they're all starting to get dumped. Best if luck.

You owe it to them to get the education THEY pay for.

This just happens to be a bad time in the life of for-profit education. In 20 years I have not seen it this bad. COCO, ESI, EDMC, CECO, and APOL all have significant problems, and likely more challenges to come.

I suspect that most of what you want to hear is information that no publicly traded company could discuss. Draw your own conclusions based on the 10K, 8K, press releases and operating agreement.

Also to add, I'm fortunate that I also work for a state university. I will not be putting this school on my future resume. I plan on staying away from for profits in the future. However, this does make things difficult for us as adjuncts if state universities are basically our only option.
