Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Any modular instructors out there, required to teach 40 hours per week?

We are being required to teach 40 hours per week. The campus president is pushing the issue, even though it's against the ACICS guidelines. Anyone else in the same boat?

This company and most of its employees suck. Somebody posts an honest concern about working hours and regulatory requirement, and people just can't wait to shit on that person. Bunch of dicks.

How many of you are students that became teachers with some minor paperwork changes?

I do what the curriculum states and I add my own pop quizzes to challenge them. I also have to create games on the smart board. I correct their assignments right away so, I need the prep time.

Here is the standard: "3‑2‑100 − Faculty

Teaching hours, assignments, and schedules will vary from field to field and from institution to institution but should in all cases allow time for adequate preparation and professional development. The institution shall devise a plan for the efficient use of faculty competence and time, including student‑teacher ratios, number of teacher preparations, and number of teaching hours. Reasonableness may be defined by, but is not restricted to, the following expectations.

3‑2‑101. Teaching Load. An instructor’s teaching load, including night school, shall not exceed 32 clock hours per week, except that an overload of not more than one subject per term for additional compensation is permitted. Teaching loads may differ when using alternative methods of instruction and must be commensurate with the type of delivery method utilized. For purposes of this calculation, assigned courses offered by nontraditional or distance learning modes of instruction are deemed to consist of one clock hour per week for each unit of academic credit awarded."

I'm Everest adjunct faculty and an ACICS evaluator. If something CCi is still doing violates their Criteria (ACICS' accreditation policy that colleges they accredit must abide by), you have a duty to report that if reporting it through CCi channels is ineffective. Complaining about this on an anonymous message board does nothing to fix the problem, but here is guidance on filing compliants on an institution ACICS accredits: http://www.acics.org/schools/content.aspx?id=2068

Wow. Are you really complaining about teaching 40 hours a week? Its standard at our campus with no prep time between modules and we are hourly not salary. Please can I have your job so I can actually get paid for prep time and call students while getting paid and not on my own time?

You owe it to them to give them the education THEY pay for.

599, my 'placement' rate is actually called a retention rate. It's quite good. If you teach the class once, you're prepped. Teaching happens IN the classroom. And like others said, quit of you hate it. Trust me, if you hate your job, your students know it. And I get complaints from students all the time about crappy instructors. They're paying a ton of money to be here. You owe them the education you pay for.

Instructors on the board are just like students. Crying and not taking responsibility. If you are making $2 an hour, you are really stupid and don't deserve to be an instructor. But, I know for a fact that's not true. If you don't like teaching, quit. If you don't like your salary, quit. But shut up and do your job in the meantime. Nobody likes a hater.

583- let me guess your placement is in the tank and your campus can't figure out why? If your just following the program in a box you were given if hate to be in your classes.

582, if you are making a salary, you are paid for prep. Besides, it's not like you design the curriculum. You follow it and grade.

Funny! It was fun and Rosie, when are campus first open. We had 4 hours of class and four hours of prep time. We all went to the SOS meetings but I knew it wasn't going to last. Yes, we quickly went to 2 classes back to back, with no prep time. The prep time was unpaid, which was our own time. They want us to take unpaid days? We have been working extra unpaid prep time.

578, me too! I was a PT adjunct with 4 classes per term. No bennies. No time off. I worked weekends. The only time I had was a few days between final grades and prep time between terms. We did NOT have that week off, because we had final grades and then prepping 4 classes. I had Xmas break off. Then FT got all the classes and I'm out on my ass. Go complain somewhere else. You have a job and a salary. Shut up and get back to work, OP.
