Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

What Schools are on the hit list to close or be merged? Looks like Mayflower just got the call to have some trucks ready to roll soon!

We are exploring the possibility of further consolidating separately accredited institutions. As we evaluate this process, it is important to remember all colleges and universities will continue to follow their existing policies and practices. A simplified accreditation structure could allow us to introduce new programs and degree levels at our institutions, providing students with a greater variety of degree options and more choice in current discipline offerings.

There are going to be more than they will tell (go figure). Campuses in close proximity to each other will be absorbed by one or the other. There is always the claim that programs are being cut although campuses that are in the same region/area still enroll for those very programs that are being "taught out". That is one way to tell if there is any "truth" to the matter. Look at what's actually going on around your area. It's all corporate jibber jabber that nobody can believe though. The truth is when they tell you one thing, expect something else. They'll try to save face by saying, "It was a last minute thing done to save the business" though. Just a bunch of bullshit artists. I haven't met one honest "upper" administrator yet.

Yep, I notice The Art Institute of Orange County coming under the name of Argosy. I was wondering what the reason for that was.

They're stretch the accreditation and revenue stream to game 90/10.

See: Phoenix and Vancouver Ai locations.

Many of EDMC's Art Institutes are already accredited under Argosy.

I think Art Institute is rather unique and won't be merged, although there are many other options for consolidating, especially combining programs and eliminating mid management. The other schools? I'm not as familiar with their curriculum. But is there redundancy between Brown-Mackie and South? How about Argosy?

Im a student but here is what I know to be fact. My school has lost 5 programs due to not meeting the requirements of gainful employment about 2 months ago. At the same school different locations across the country everyone one of them lost programs, some only 1 and some 9 or 10! This info is buried on each locations website on about page 20 of a 40 page PDF bulletin. So common sense would say to start combing schools to boost programs and cut other weaker schools all together. Granted they have to be in the same general area, say a 100 mile radius of each other, but there are a some of these out there. The other issue is 90/10 as my name states. You Should read up on it, as a lot of the decisions could be based on it and what is going to happen to the For-Profits once they remove us GIs out of the 10% and into the 90%.

But Im just a student and don't understand anything.

There is no reason to be mean to the OP, he/she is just asking a question without a claim for in-depth knowledge

You clearly don't understand the accreditation and program approval process. Go research schools that have many OPEIDs versus those that only have one.
