As it is difficult for an accountant who worked for Enron to get interviewed without skepticism, how do we address and separate ourselves from the "fraud practices" when interviewing? I can sense that when I'm interviewing, the interviewer has hesitation about my affiliation with Everest. I'm in Career Services but started in Admissions. It's like a double handicap!

"It is clear you are not an employee" Uh, you mean CS employee. How would online faculty know these things? And does it really matter who documents the fake placement and who runs the report?
Advice: I actually disagree with bringing more attention to what is going on here. Other schools know. Just focus on what you can bring to the table. No need to go in in defense mode.

Kudos to you. One, for being brave and honest sharing your concern. I agree with most posters on this thread... GET EXTERNAL REFERENCES. and send them along with your application. Even a list of grads and phone numbers (as long as they agree to being a reference). I have a list of individual quotes rather than a long reference letter. Truth is, most people don't like to write references because it takes a lot of thought and time. But if you ask them for a single quote or to at least put you on a "call" reference list, the. They will most likely do that. You can also build up your LinkedIn with recommendations and reference that when applying.

RECOMMENDATION: I am a decent Everest employee who secured a position. This is what worked for me.... I submitted my resume to managers at other schools who are also former Everest employees. You would be surprised how many people came and gone from CCI. And you do not have to bash CCI. They get it. Focus on your strengths and like many wrote here... Bring references from STUDENTS, GRADUATES and for you EMPLOYERS. They will be your best advocates.
To 300. Thank you. I have already 4 interviews this week. My interview from last week took me by surprise when I could tell the interviewer gave me a stern look about Everest. She was the second person to interview me at the company so she wasn't the original one who brought me in for the interview. I'm continuing to set up interviews for recent graduates too. That will be hard to leave them during their search. I probably will continue to help them anyways as best I can.

What you have going for herself is that your new to the industry. And you can tell them just that... You were brought into the CS department as part of an overhaul to re-establish its credibility with compliance and students and grads. Definitely have graduate references ready and even send out with your application. Have specific success stories ready to share. In your cover letter, bring attention to the fact that you were chosen for this overhaul. Always do what is right by the student and it will fall into place and you will come out on top. Even though CCI isn't. Good luck!
To 30293... This is the original poster. My former Director tended to get "creative", but they did a complete overhaul of Career Services which is how I ended up here. We have a new DOCS (who is going back to her former college). But I can say that we are very conservative with our reporting and verification. The challenge though is the salaries that employers offer are not very high.
I'm the original poster. Yes, I was a little hesitant to ask. This is my first company out of college and I was in Admissions for a year and then Career Services for only 5 months. But I never thought I'd be explaining myself to new employers so early on in the workforce. I do like Career Services and believe I'm more impactful. So I want to stay in this industry and field. I've actually placed 22 graduates directly and have had them write up a few references for me.
Was your job on the up and up? Did you gave a real placement rate? Or are the CS rumors true?
Good point. But keep in mind this person went from admissions to career services so probably didn't have the CS background. I would recommend that you of us on how YOU work and come prepared with many references from students, graduates, employees and co workers.
Did you participate in 'fraud practices'? If yes, you're probably screwed. If not, you'll have to explain you didn't participate.
I'm sorry, but a CS person asking how to get placed? No wonder the students don't get placed. While in admissions, what did you tell all the prospective students that have background issues?
