It feels like being a rabbit chasing a carrot on a string. "The chase the lure – until the dog caught up to it and discovered it was a white plastic bag on a string". I think they took human resource lesson from:

really? Just meet the goals? Nothing to it. FSS met their goals last year. It didn't make any difference. We didn't see any bonus. So far this year, the goals have been raised been raised 25%. No matter what we do, it won't be enough. I just keep thinking back to when ML first started. She made it clear that she didn't think we deserved the bonuses we got in previous years. Anyone stuck on the STI bonus plan has been set up to fail.

Regardless of how the patent holder obtains ownership (they file it directly with the patent office, or they buy the patents) they are the legal owner to a patent and companies cannot use the technology without payment of royalties or a cross licensing agreement. Companies late to the technology market typically end us using already patented technology. Cafescribe was very late to market.

you and I will not get a bonus. Anyone who got stuck as part of the STI bonus plan will never see another penny in bonus money. If it looks like we will make whatever goals they defined, they will raise the goal to make it impossible to reach, just like they just did.

Innovative Automation (IA) is San Jose, CA based company - the case was filed with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. As you can see the location has nothing to do with Follett or IA - the court is famous its tendency to rule in favor of patent trolls. So IA is basically patent troll assembly of IP pirates who harass value producing companies based on obscure patents they acquired rights to. This will settle and part of your and my bonus will be transferred to IA. It's not fair.
