Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Layoffs beginning in the next 4-6 weeks?

This is a timeline that I've heard in the rumor mill. Any others?

Funny how Management keeps posting here. Go back to work really? Sorry but you have no power here. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Maybe in this case "trim the fat" means keeping only the top 20% of income generating schools in prime locations. California could sure trim some fat. I think they have 7 or 8 location. But CA only has 2 major cities, 3 if you count San Diego. One campus in each major city is more then enough. Student will commute, they do it all the time.

In that case, huge change would probably be to close down a significant number of campuses. That would put them in the black temporary. Plus, it's quick and easy, they would not have to get into the micro details of unraveling the mess EDMC got itself into.

why wait until 2015? didn't a board member leave a few months ago? in addition, didn't the debt deal require for two additional "new owners" join the board immediately? i would also imagine that if moscato wants to impress the new management, he'll make huge changes rather than wait until 2015.

Management knows you know, but like a bad marriage, they just pretend its all red wine and roses so you dont leave before they are ready. Then one day, when you least expect it, they dump you by text.

Something has to be going on, it feels like the calm before the storm, when are employees going to be told by management anything going on. Do they think we don't know?

4-6 weeks? No way. I predict layoffs will start in 2015 once new owners are in charge. Also layoffs ate going to hit AI the noat, Argosy and South next and Brown Mackie the least. Why you ask ... look at how tge individual schools are performing. I am voraciosly looking for another job ... not looking for a job right now will be akin to staying on the totanic deapite knowing that the ship is about to sink in a few hours. There's no loyalty, smartness in staying with the company unless one wants to take a brrak and collect unemployment for a little while. Pack your shit up and run ...

Well, it seems some action is overdue. Let's get started! However the only thing I wonder about is the timeline for the ownership handoff. That doesn't happen until 2015. Why would the old owners take any action until then, and the new owners don't have the power yet as far as I could guess.

However, things are tanking daily. But what that means in the big picture is anyone's guess since they cut a new deal, etc

It's a layoff discussion board. If you don't want to "discuss" then please don't visit it.

There is no proof we need to stop obsessing over it.
