Change of attitude

OK, I know I am going to probably catch crap for this, but I really think some people on this board need a change of attitude. If you aren't an employee, why are you even here? If you are an employee, is all of your complaining really helping? It wasn't all that long ago that most employees were too busy helping students learn and overcome their obstacles to complain. Those smiles you saw at graduation from our students and their families are real! If all the employees just refocus on that, things will take care of themselves. Yes, CCi will sell some schools. Yes, a couple of schools not on the closure list may have to shut down. It is even possible the 10% reduction in pay will be extended a little longer. That doesn't change the fact that complaining is not going to make anything better but helping students and being professional to each other will. Being kinder to people on this board would be a good start. Happy Monday everyone.

Being told your company is closing and there's a tiny outside chance the company will sell (it won't) and there's a tiny chance you might get hired by another company (completely unlikely in some departments) does give me a bad attitude. But I am also angry watching students who take out huge loans for a stipend, knowing full well they won't be going to class and no matter how many times I call and email them (instructor), they do not give a shit and aren't coming to class. I was out next term anyway. I want a job at a school where students appreciate the value of their education. I'm going to back to where I taught before. In 3 years, I had 4 students drop in the ads/drop and not a single student just up and quit. I love higher education. But I can't invest in a classroom that doesn't give a crap.

255 you are absolutely correct. The instructors that face these students are the ones having the hardest time. Most care about their students and have to keep, or at least put on a positive attitude everyday.

It's hard to keep a good attitude when students are leaving, vendors are shutting us off, students aren't enrolling and every week there are more "cost cutting" policies implemented. Unless you are a dreamer and refuse to except reality, CCi is not going to make a comeback. They are flat broke with no credit and no investors. It's day to day for us hoping some other company comes riding in on a white horse to save the day. The financial problems have been building for years and hit a peak in June when it was announced in the 10K filing that without additional financing CCi was not going to be able to meet it's debt payment obligations. The only thing the DOE did was to expedite the inevitable collapse of CCi by inhibiting the use of title IV funds for debt and legal payments. It's a shame that employees that did the right thing everyday and the good students that worked hard and were serious about their education are caught in the middle of this mess. This mess was created by greed and the top brass wanting to live lifestyles of the rich and famous.

I'm thinking that the change of attitude should start at the top, with restoration of pay being a good start.

I am an Instructor and I care about all my students. I am will stay until they tell me to go. I love what I do. I am so glad you posted this thought. We do need the positive with the negative. When someone talks crap about instructors; I say, "whatever," and go on. Sometimes I feel sorry for the ones that curse because they are simply true Vulgarians.

Anonymous34250 - your clueless. CCI is not willing selling some schols they are being forced to serll and shit down. Had the government not got involved to investigate their fradulent practices they would continue on the merry ways. Make no mistake CCI is going away in its entirety. Read the prior posts which clealy spelled it out. The company is too interconnected from their financials, to their systems to their business processes which will prevent it from selling piceses of itself.

This is a LAYOFF board. People can post whatever they want - sheesh - venting and poking fun at people helps relieve some of that stress this whole mess has brought on. This isn't the place for holding hands and singing Kumbaya. If it upsets you, I suggest you stop reading.

Attitude is a matter of choice. I appreciate your choice. That said, I hope you are not ignoring the financial realities facing CCI, and the likely (unhappy....) outcomes that we all willl soon be facing.
