Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Take the week off and look for a job

If you haven't started yet, take your week off and look for a job. I don't thing anyone will have a job come mid October. You noticed that the furlough weeks were both in Sept. HMMMMM..I wonder what that means.

35752 - Everybody's been looking for months. I'm at Socle Tampa and just started my job search in late July. So far this month, we've lost at least 7 people here (I think they were all or at least mostly resignations). Most hiring processes take at least a couple of months start to finish, so they've been out there competing against me (and maybe you) the whole time. I only know of one woman not working, and it's because I think she secretly wants an excuse to become a housewife and have her hubby earn all the dough.

Everyone keep in mind that high level managers on campus are likely getting bonuses for sticking it out. Of course they're in good moods!!! They'll have a nice little cushion while they are looking for a new job.

Please don't encourage people to job hunt! I've been looking since June and can't find anything. I don't want any more competition.

719, that's such bullshit. That's literally the only time you can take off anyway.

741 - I work there and you are correct. Be afraid, be VERY afraid. Actually, I'm not privy to the specifics, but I've been here long enough to know when those guys are being more evil than normal. The worst thing is that they've seemed in good spirits through this entire thing. They don't seem to feel there's any risk of prosecution for them and that they'll come out of this with plenty of money. They're probably right! Really irks when Happy Jack talks about how painful it was for them to declare a furlough. It wasn't.

What that means is that we don't have enough money to make payroll for the month. October will bring something else, probably layoffs and more furloughs to get by for a little while longer. There's no big shot of money in the pipeline, even if there is a sale pending "in the next few weeks" (it is looking more like ECMC, which is weird). My biggest concern is the increase in PIPs, which I'm still hearing about. It would be CCi's style to prepare to fire instead of laying off. It will save them unemployment money (even if some people successfully appeal) and it would not be a series of layoffs that would need to be reported to the monitor or disclosed to investors. They could say it's just "business as usual." I obviously don't know everything going on, but the "Miranda Rights" email followed by the furlough email and all of these PIPs going around has got to make you wonder. I fear that sly, nasty mischief is afoot on the 4th floor.

That's all well and good if you're an employee. FT faculty (at least for ECPO) can't use their time off during the term. It has to be in 2-day increments and it has to be during a "break week" between terms.
