Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Attention all CS Online Instructors that report to Program Director RT

Apparently CCI is moving him to the Tampa office. 6 of his 9 PLs have to go to other PDs and he wants to keep all remaining 100+ Computer Apps instructors under his leadership to be “managed”. Let’s hope they have other plans for him in Tampa. He is not fit to “manage” or shall we say “micromanage” any more instructors. If they do have other plans for him and other people that he can bully and harass, all I can say is “Watch out Tampa!”

825, you are so right. The email assaults! I wonder if that person would like to receive 6 one to two sentence emails per day from his PD. There's no reason to even send 6 in week! If you think the email assaults are bad, have you have the opportunity to listen to his phone meetings? It is like listening to a dictator.

686, then you obviously do not teach CS. If you did, then you would get bombarded with his daily email assaults as well. If you don’t know him, keep your 2 cents to yourself, or heckle another board. He does have the power to assign classes, and there lies the problem.

Love your response, adjunctCCI. You are correct. The disrespect started Day 1 and continues.

Anonymous43686, its all about tone, as online adjucts we are unable to see RT's face to garner expression context. But from day one, his tone as been very stand off-ish. they ask us to use professional tone in our converstations with students, in which some are adult working learners. I expect my PD to do the same. our prior PD had a welcoming tone in his e-mails, RT early on poured a foundation against open commuication.

there was one e-mail in particular that stated not to e-mail him becaues he has 100+ adjuncts and does not have time to respond. I'm sorry but that is not how you build bridges to open communication, nor in my view is it professional. now I guess someone put a bug in his ear recently because his e-mails have been much milder and reference speaking with PL's on certain issues, but much can be improved.

In my view it shows his lack of understanding when it comes to managing a virtual workforce. If this siutation was CCI of old (3-4 years ago) RT would be much more tolerated, but when the boat is rocking as much as it is, the captian who in truth needs his crew in order to have a job should be much more gracious and consistant in his delivery of commands.

I have never been micromanaged by this PD - never had any issues with him - doesn't bother me - responsive. It is easy to complain but the truth of the matter is the for profit system is the driving force of this stuff/behavior not the PD. The PD is just doing a job as the system outlines. You want to blame an individual for the system of a for profit college model? If you were in the role of being the PD tomorrow trust me you would be given the same directives as this PD and in the same boat. I believe this PD tries to do his best with what he has to work with. Does he send a lot of e-mail reminders? You bet but ask yourself why that is? Maybe YOU perform your job and complete all the requirements but don't kid yourself, not everyone does. If an instructor doesn't perform and then later claims well I didn't know, there is a paper trail to say well you did know. This individual is NOT the problem, There is always someone in a position of management and always those under that management that want to complain. Name one problem you have had with this PD? Name one thing he has done to treat you poorly or unfair? If you are not assigned classes - you blame him?! If you are assigned classes does he bother you when you peform the job requirements? I simply don't understand the reason for the complaining on an individual who is not the problem.

I hear you Anonymous43582, it would be nice if he left but I did hear some rumor from my PL that he might take half if not all of the adjuncts with him..yuck!!! either way, I have pushed back in the past and found that he does not care to listen to reason or middle ground, and while I know he is the PD it does not mean we have to respond to every e-mail or tantrum he throws. I have a much better working relationship with my PL and will take my queues from there.

Don't get excited "adjunctCCI" he is trying to persuade management to let him keep 100+ instructors under him. I wonder how many complaints Dean JS has received about him.

There have been people that have pushed back. They have refused to respond to his emails and calls, many have instituted resistance and have somewhat rebelled. Others have told him everything short of "go to hell" and quit, some have abandoned their class midterm. He does not get it. He thinks that we actually need him and enjoy the abuse. Now he has his PLs sending his nothingness emails.
