DG "The numbers don't look good Mary Lee" ML"That's awful Don, what are we going to tell the board?" DG "Well, we sold a lot of the inventory that we marked down for no reason in the spring. We will tell them that we have better than expected margins because of our brilliant plan to sell dead inventory" ML "You are so smart Don, we can crow about that and none of the family members will realize we don't have a clue" DG "only half as smart as you Mary Lee, let's just hope nobody asks about the huge sales decline in textbook units" ML "Don't worry Don, we have bullied everyone into believing everything we say".

I second this statement - make them hate coming to work and then feel terribly about hating the job they once loved

You never hear of the long termers quitting. That's because they're quietly driven out. The whole idea is to get them to leave quietly. The process is abusive and likely illegal. Brutalize the long term employee, the employee who has gallons of sweat equity to this shit hole, make them doubt their own ability and competence, make them fell hopeless about the future, make them hate coming to work and then feel terribly about hating the job they once loved, that has been the plan for 3 years+. That employee quietly goes away. They're not celebrated. They're ostracized. They're shunned. It is ugly, mean and brutal.

That is the baffling theory of this management. We will make life miserable and lose the best Follett talent (the long termers never quit). Do they not understand that success is through employees? I guess they think hiring their friends from kmart and office max will pick up the slack?

The talented accounting employees will leave early leaving just the average accounting employees, just like what is left in IT now.

This is a response to an earlier posted question regarding the staggering process of budgetary adjustment notifications to affected areas through this month, more comprehensive moves will be made November, with December supposedly being the month of shuttering and aggressive staff reductions to achieve end of year operating profit targets.

This is the first year in 3 that sales are up. Expense control is leading to a very solid bottom line. Share price up first time in years.
