Thread regarding Follett layoffs

PTO

So do you earn your PTO as you go like vacation? We used to receive our sick days at the beginning of the year so do we have to wait to earn days? I have a large amount of vacation hours and want to make sure I don't lose any.

keep in mind that they keep cutting the amount of PTO you can carry over. Use it or lose it at the end of the year.

I haven't looked. But I can tell you last year they changed the sick day policy in the P&P without telling anyone.

There's also state laws that are supposed to prevent that.

Read the P&P this morning for Field staff. Unless there's a revision coming that isn't mentioned, the current listing for Jury Duty and Bereavement states that you are not pulling from personal/sick days. Specifically Jury duty allows payment up to 30 days, and Bereavement, though a little more vague did still have an entry at full pay for salaried employees. I'd like to know where the news about this changing came from. That's not snark, I don't see that as improbable if I'm honest.

PTO is governed by state law just like vacation. Check your state. In California, vacation and PTO are earned benefits. That means once earned, it can't be taken from you. However they may be able to cap the amount of PTO you're able to carry and if you cross that threshold, you'll stop accruing PTO until you use some. If you live in Colorado, you must use your vacation/PTO every year. Any unused vacation/PTO is lost. Check your state for local regulations.

can you tell us whether it is true that we are going to have to use PTO for jury duty and bereavement?

Yes, earned just like vacation. They give you until 12/2016 to use your vacation on cutover. The important thing is they allow you to accrue unlimited PTO time until 12/2016.
