Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

If you're an instructor at Everest Online, teaching and facilitating is dead last on your list of responsibilities.

Your top responsibilities are Outreach (calling, emailing, texting), data entry on Talisma to record Outreach attempts and interactions, and passing all students (regardless of whether the student participates, meets quality standards for submitted assignments, or can read or write). Your role is no longer instructor, but a disrespected babysitter of adults.

The sad truth is that everyone at every level knows this is the truth. Instructors know it is a joke. Corporate knows it is a joke, so they make outreach a big part of showing we are doing some kind of work. The dept. of Ed knows the whole thing is a joke, but for profits pay for lobbyists, so we are left documenting some fake teaching. The job placement numbers tell the story. But I have two kids and a divorced wife who needs cash, so I keep taking classes.

723 I never said we were immune to anything. What are you talking about? We just have different outreach requirements. We still have to email students and contact advisors. This is what's wrong with this board. Hardly anyone left here can have a normal discussion without idiotic responses.

Actually EUO and ECPO have different policies. Same parent company of course, but different rules. I am with ECPO, and we do not have the same outreach responsibilities as EUO instructors.

OP speaks the truth. Add being asked to give nothing lower than a D and the family portrait is complete

All online classes are a joke. It's nothing more than fantasy college. I know a person that got an online degree and his wife done all his work. He worked a full time job while his wife stayed home watching the kids and doing all his online courses.

ECPO is also Everest Online.

@685: These are Everest Online instructors, not ECPO. The use of Talisma is still the majority of an instructor's duties.

Everest Online still uses Talisma!!!! ECPO obviously smartened up and saw how ridicous it was. The OP and other comments are referring to Everest Online.

I used to care about quality work from students, but since Cci doesn't care, I no longer do either.

I have embraced being a low standard instructor. As a result, I spend 10 minutes to grade 32 students and outreach on only those that have not uttered one incoherent sentence into discussions or submitted an assignment. My grading and outreach take no time each week. And I am GOLD to CCi management.

This is the truth. As an instructor here, I sometimes feel like spending a minute to do grading rather than actually reading and reviewing that they have met each requirement. It seems if you do that, you are on cci's "great instructor" list since your Outreach is smaller and you are only contacting the no-shows (but no one under 70% since the rest are passing with grades they don't all deserve), your attrition and failure rates are smaller, and your student complaints are non-existent. Why bother having standards if you are penalized by upper management? And why spend all that time grading or doing Outreach if you can give all students easy passing grades?

Sadly, you are right on. The evaluations devalue teaching. They focus on the nonsense like useless Outreach and attrition - and now student GPA and failure rate. Numbers are all they give a sh*t about in this so-called "university". Knowing that students are being passed without merit, I would hire none of these students
