Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Is working off of the clock rampant in other stores?

I will not post any identifying information here so please do not ask. I am asking if working off of the clock has become common place in other stores? Several people in my store have been coerced into working off of the clock for hours. The tactics used to coerce are that if we want to keep our jobs we have to run a profitable and clean store, if we don't make our numbers the store will be slated to close, we're lucky to have a job, such and such store closed because the team wasn't committed, if we don't stay under our payroll we will be deemed unprofitable. If it has become rampant in other areas I personally think we should organize a class action suit. I have kept track of all the hours that I have "donated". And to the people talking about defecating on the floor you truly are discrediting the legitimate posts and posters here.

Totally concur with Anonymous58755; anytime I've had to talk to an employee I always verify that they are on the clock. If not I wait until they are punched in. I could add my fair share of negative comments on the company, mostly aimed at the corp level, but with store being individually ran there will always be people that attempt to skirt the rules. I have never asked anyone to work off the clock. If you have been, contact the ethics hotline at 1-800-827-7478

As someone who works at a Sears as a FJ/CAC lead I have never asked my employees to do such a thing. as a matter of fact I am very concerned about that area. Even if I need to talk to them about something dealing with work I make sure to ask them first "are you clocked in?" I only ever ask my people if they can work extra because someone called out but they also stay on the clock and do not clock out. If there are Sears out there that are doing that I would recommend that you contact your District HR. I know the process is to contact your immediate supervisor and so on and so forth. but that sounds like a management problem that should be taken high immediately! I wish you luck
