Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

We treat you like garbage but you better keep a positive attitude!

It always amazes me that the "front line" employees get blamed for having bad attitudes. We work for a company that is in a constant state layoffs, our leads are SHIT and our managers, middle and upper, for the most part are so unqualified to manage it's a joke. Not one manager in this place has actually gone to a legit business school. Oh you got your MBA from Argosy? What a Joke...

If there's a production problem it has nothing to do with anyone browsing the internet, looking at their phone or having a bad attitude. It's because every person that we have transferred to us is someone who applied for a job and got tricked into talking to us.

I honestly wish that KKR would bring in an outside consulting firm to take a look at how useless many of the upper and middle management roles are and how unqualified they are to be in those roles. The only people making this place money IS the front line: student facing positions; and it's a miracle we are still even able to recruit given the current lead sources, high tuition and bad press.

I could not agree more with this post!!! On "surveys" I always include the fact that many people in management are not qualified to be there. What ticks me off is that if you look at the jobs that are posted, most will say "Bachelors required, Masters preferred." You would think management would also be held to that same standard. We are, after all, an education company. In my department, NO managers have Master's and neither does our director. There's even a manager that does NOT have a bachelor's or even an associate's degree. She was given the position by our sexist director since she worked for him in another department and came to the company out of high school. Yet, she manages a team that requires a Bachelor's degree. And the company encourages people to advance their education? There's no incentive! They always talk about company moral and how can we make this a better place to work? How about bringing in qualified leaders that know how to encourage their workers in positive ways? Just sayin'...

I used to work there a few years ago, I see things are still the same. Your assessment of middle to upper management is correct. I know one guy that was an AI graduate, couldn't get a job in the art field so he went to work for another For-Profit as a teacher, then department head. Ai hired him back, he quickly got his masters at another fly by night university, now it s Dean of one of the schools. All if in a few years, that guy never really had real working experience outside Ai. Hiring from within is one thing, but his status is all based on fake credentials. I hear he is not very well liked or effective at his job...no surprise. "Oh, you have a Masters, you're hired. Its not in management no problem. You say you never ran a big company before, you're hired." It will never happen, but KKR should come in and clean house upstairs if they really want results from the downstairs staff. Hey KKR wake up, the Butler in charge of the staff is the one stealing your jewelery, not the cooks and maids.
