Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

What, your students can't read? Here is one explanation.

It is a long, ugly story. But online scams run by shady organizations (some of whom are members of the Private and For Profit College Association currently suing DoE) are scamming the economically disadvantaged, as described below. They sell the education leads generated via online scams for assistance to...guess who?

".....a website called familyhelpnetworkusa.com, supposedly offering housing assistance. When I tried to get information on assistance through the website, I reached a window that asked me to agree to the following:

By clicking Get Started Instantly, I agree to be contacted to discuss job openings, career alerts, legal services, and educational opportunities at the number provided, even if a wireless number, through the use of an automated dialer by EdSoup, U.S. News University Connection, LLC or our preferred partners...."

That's an easy answer, it is easy money. Don't get me wrong, I teach to the best of my ability and try to get the students to learn as much as possible while they are in the course. Yet, many of the students don't even bother showing up.

I'm going down with this sinking ship for the money.

580, how is it that a teacher who admits that CCi tactics are shameful can so easily refer to students as "suckers" who are dumb and increasing the numbers of their "ilk"? You sound disdainful of CCi and your students, so why do you teach?

As an online instructor this is not shocking at all. Actually, I expected to see this come about at some point. We now know where the continuing suckers, err I mean newly enrolled students, come from.

It is a shame the company is operated in this way and almost as shameful, there are people dumb enough to fall for something like this.

Unfortunately, the people who are suckered into this, who can barely write their own name, are fornicating in their free time and extending the populace with more of their ilk.

550, you have totally missed the point. Profits are great. Misleading the disadvantaged in order to derive profit and leave the student worse off is unethical, immoral and illegal. As a CCi employee, I wish I could say that I am shocked by your post but I know at least a dozen others who would say the same thing. Hope you guys didn't leave a cyber trail.

Shocking that people posting in defense of CCI have no sense of ethics. Actually, the only way to defend CCI is to jettison ethics. The world is a harsh place so it's OK to f*** people over. Nice.

I switched from Admissions to CP around a year after I started. It's amazing how shocked friends and family are when I casually discuss purchased leads, "smile & dial" or even our placement processes. They seem to have no idea that some colleges are publicly traded and highly profit oriented. They wouldn't be shocked to hear that McDonald's misleads its customers and doesn't give them a product that will benefit them in the long run. For some reason education is a sacred cow, though, and colleges are expected to be run as social service organizations.
