Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Tough Times Don’t last, Tough People do

I wanted to set the record straight on a comment made in a previous post: “Thanks Ed for the words of encouragement....We all need to be pumped up so that Exec's like you can take a 6 digit "bonus" while we drown these kids in excessive debt, worthless degrees and drive EDMC into the gutter...”. The fact is, I didn’t take a bonus this year. Nor did most of EDMC’s top management. We thought it would be inappropriate given these minor financial setbacks the company is facing. You see, times are tough for everyone, even CEO’s. Without that bonus, my income amounts to just under four million dollars a year. Keep in mind, I have a 78 acre estate to keep up. Four million doesn’t go as far as you might think. I’ve had to cut back on everything from the number of maids and gardeners I employ, to security. Watch this video: http://www.wtae.com/investigations/Whistle-blower-accuses-EDMC-of-falsifying-records-to-get-taxpayer-money/18535232 . You’ll notice that the TV reporter made it all the way up my driveway and to the front door because I now only have one security guard and he was on a break (By the way, start watching at 3:27 – there’s nothing to see before that). As you can see from the video, we didn’t even have anyone available to answer the door. And it’s not only me, the whole executive team is struggling. But we don’t want your pity. I assure you that our best days are still ahead. 2015 is going to be a great year! EDMC will rise from the ashes like a phoenix. We’ll be back to our 6 digit bonuses –mine is actually 7 digits – in no time. (Note to self: just in case things don’t work out, have assistant follow up on my job application to the University of Phoenix.)

shut up Ed! while you'r racking up a 6 figure income (oops I meant 7 figure), Ai students are racking up a 6 figure student loan debt. why don't you use your disgustingly high salary to start a 'bail Ai students out of debt' fund?

damn corporate criminals!

I have a part-time job as a retail clerk selling video games at a gaming store in a shopping mall. I only make $12.50/hr and was hoping to take a Gaming program at Ai to advance my skills and hopefully make a better income. However... I am now concerned - not only for the lack of employment opportunities that will follow my worthless degree, but also for the inevitable statistic that I'm sure you will publish regarding my placement, that I am "fully employed in my field of study" (at the mall). Somehow I don't feel right about this. Ed, could you please advise?

Sorry I cheated and watched the whole video. How low will this company stoop? This plus now the GI bill lawsuit. Yeah, I know " We think the suit is without merit, and we will defend ourselves". What else is new?!
