Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Layoffs Will Continue...Atleast till March...

I was laid off this week from the Schlumberger Rankin location in Houston...the layoffs started in this office since late November of last year starting with contractors and others who were offered early retirement. Before this happened in Around October managent told us that even though prices began to fall there was nothing to worry about, they would try to do anything they could to let us keep our jobs...crap i should of known that was the time to fly and go elsewhere. And even before that this past summer higher management held meerings with us to let us know about the new changes...of course they also spoke about worker retentio but all that was just as many have mentioned in this blog a bunch of words...if Schlumberger really wanted to retain talent they could of started by paying more and giving better benefits to the workers plus bonuses which i heard were gone when Smith bits was bought by big blue. I dont exactly know how many people were laid off this week from Rankin but i know people from the Eng dept other downhole tools such as Reaners where laid off including people that were here for more than 10 years in the case of some i heard they had 3 weeks of unused vacarion which they didnt used last year due to a lot of work...all for nothing only to be laidoff in such an unprofessional manner in the case of another eng i heard that when he was taken into the room to be laidoff upper management told him he was being laidoff as if he was doing a service for money hungry Schlumberger...in all i was told by sources that around 20 people from the Bits eng dept and other downhole tools such as reamers were laid off this week...in the end the way this company threated me and many others is much worst than many other small companies that i've worked for...this is such an embarrasment for a company that is the biggest oil and gas services company in the world...all of their policies about worker retention...being a better workplace are a bunch of crap...all they care about is the money and were are just another number to them...

Many things depend of your immediate manager. Sometimes they are incompetent youngsters promoted solely due to connections they have. This is one of the reasons why we see this downfall and headcount reduction.

I wonder if they should have a "Quest" class explaining in advance how they will dispose of you at any hint of a down turn. I feel bad for anyone that had their company bought out by them and are now having to deal with this kind of crap.
