Qualcomm gives so much work that u have to work overtime and they won't pay u for overtime. Most people at Qualcomm are super mean and want u to feel like shit as that is how they feel.
With all the foul mouthed Americans, glad to see QC going down the drain.
Sadly that Qualcomm does not care about its employees.
Qcom train is coming to a halt. Company will get crushed by China in licensing and market share in Apple product space. layofs wil be significant after todays 11+ percent decline in price which is over 10 bil in market cap dissapearing.
@61554 is another example of anti-Asian. If “they” were used by one to reference African Americans, that person would be labeled a racist. I do dare you to criticize African Americans. Oh wait, QC does not hire AF. Aren’t they American?

They can't make critical decisions by themselves, and depend on 'community agreement'. Often time it will take them 2-3 weeks to final come to term with what American ingenuity can determine in a matter or hours. They ARE NOT critical thinkers, but more 'community thinkers'. Often times it take 2-3 (lots of times more) of them to agree on any particular thing. The Israelis on the other hand, think ahead, argue for their solution, AND GET IT DONE! But, as you say, they do work harder... because they have to be told what to do!

I learn that to climb the QC ladder, you have to be able articulate, and be so good at it to take credit from others. That pretty much narrows the pool down to Caucasians and lawyers. Asians, you are out of luck. Just look at the anti-Asian sentiment posted here. Loyalty and contribution means nothing, if you cannot articulate and write embellishing emails.

What I learned: Hire more Asians / Indians, they work harder.
I learned from a colleague working there to use my stock options and bonus to buy as many investments (San Diego real estate, equity, dividends,etc) as possible so that when (not if) the shit hits the fan, I can live off of the passive income instead of being a salary slave indefinitely to a company that isn't mine. I learned that every minute I spend working overtime for a company without being paid is time wasted that I could have spent building my own financial future. And that time wasted which I could have used for my own personal benefit, the company I work for will never compensate me for. Furthermore, if I let them push me around so much that I don't have any free time, I wasn't doing a very good job taking care of my own future.
I learned that "managing your VP" was a real term. The cover-your-own-ass syndrome is pervasive. When is it a good thing to carefully manage messaging to our own VP. maybe that is how the game has to be played?

many engineers start at Qualcomm in groups they either aren't fit for, or not extremely interested in, due to stupid "bidding" scheme for recruiting fresh outs. The engineer simply wants/needs a job and knows Qualcomm has a good reputation. Then the engineer hears the HR psychobabble of "owning your career" so the engineer tries out this "owning your career" thing. Then many managers will resent the fact the engineer is no longer the pushover they bargained for, and dares to be so selfish as to try to align their career goals with a better fit role. The lesson is:
Politeness is a losing hand. Paying dues is obsolete. Altruism is for suckers. Reciprocal altruism is for weenies. Using people is for LEADERS. Use anybody and everybody, and MOVE ON (up).
Learn from the CEO; go to interview with a high profile company, and make sure that your boss knows about it without you mentioning it. QC comes back with a promotion and a big pay bump. QC does not value loyalty, and it only care to keep you if you are in high demand.
I am a 'new hire' by Qualcomm's standard as I only been with the company less than 5 years. The first 3 months were great as I was still wearing pink glasses. The pay was good, bonuses were generous and RSUs were going up in value. After about 4 months things became more interesting. My manager left and I was now reporting to a deranged, loudmouth, back-stabbing, clinically psychotic SR. DIRECTOR! -- 15 year QCOM veteran who got promoted probably because of affirmative action. Unfortunately, the learning opportunities were limited at best. Actually, I take it back. I discovered how a manager should NOT treat employees. I now know how to travel on weekends for business and not expect a word of gratitude for it. I now know how it feels to fly in economy class while your company colleagues from different QC departments are having grand time in business class. I now know that someone can take all of your contributions and position them as his/her own. I now know that I am no longer part of QC that is rotting from the inside while executive team feasting on their $95 million stock bonus but hard working people are being asked to hit the road.
I agree with 60927 and see opportunity beyond the Q. I been here for 12 years ... by the 5th year I was already all ware out but how could I go with my h1b and a family to feed? Not to mention my american born kids not ready to go back to my country which unfortunately has nothing to offer...Now I am free and ready for a change. Good luck to all of you.
I learned to put my spirituality, my wife,and my kids first in my life. I learned that my morals and spirituality came first. I also learned that I didn't need as much financially as I thought I did. I left in 2008, going to work with heart skips each morning and super stress with a manager who said one thing and his boss who said 180% degrees different. My boss was very unethical as was my bosses' boss. Both scumbags. One morning, I left. "Your quitting?" You can't quit right now at this stage of the game . . ." I turned and said, "When the stress of the job, is worse then the stress of not having a job, . . . that's your sign." I cashed out my 401K and started my own small business. Three times happier and make the same money doing 60% less work. You will always be emotionally or financial poor working for other people because in a good or bad way, you are their slave. Simplify your life, stay out of debt for a bunch of crap you don't really need, and live below your means. Didn't borrow a penny to start my business and it is well diversified into multiple revenue streams in a niche service market AND it is something I love doing and was doing as a hobby for 20 years. Things will only get worse as time moves along and this system keeps falling apart. The time to simplify your life is now. You can complain and moan all you want, but you're the one driving to the office every morning. No one is forcing you to do so.

I learned that if you went to the restroom in most buildings and there was pee all around the urinals (yes! piss all over the floor under the urinals) it meant there was a lot of H-1B workers in the building.
