Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Aside from direct layoffs that happen pretty much all the time at IBM, the management is very sneaky when it comes to designing attrition programs to get folks quit without receiving severance payments that may be sometimes very good for folks that have been with the company for a while. I’ve been saying for a decade or so that IBM has turned into a sweatshop made for educated workers, that’s exactly what’s going on right now. For example, now they have this thing where they cut your salary 10% and they force you to take classes on new technologies, like Cloud, etc. They claim that some workers have less marketable skills and they need to catch up, so they cut salary and they give you some hours to complete training during that time. Also, another Attrition Program is based on limiting movement between offices. Before, if you are located in the Bay Area and let’s say you want to move to Atlanta because of family situation and you find a spot in Atlanta and someone wants you on a project there, it was relatively easy to move. But now they limit that and they will block it if you request it. Finally, I heard that there might be some layoffs here in Q1, mostly affecting the US, Canada and Australia.
