Got a call from HR the other day wanting some personal information for their records that they did not currently have. Has anyone else gotten a call? If so, what does it mean??

NEVER give out personal info over the phone. If you are then maybe going back to school to learn about Stranger Danger is more you style.
They would email you if they wanted anything from you, getting a phone call makes no sense. I'd say that other posters are right, this has nothing to do with layoffs and it is some kind of scam
This is a phishing call 99% sure - give a call to HR
It wasn't HR. You were being phished. Go back and do your Information Security and Data Protection Essentials training. If HR needs any information from you, your presence will be requested.
