Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

QCOM is becoming a company of project and program managers who are eating all cream and left over is coming to real work force

in long career of 8 years i had seen how core values have diminished. It was just few years ago we used to talk about issues, technical details, brainstorm small to big things .... not we talk about resource mountain chart, we see PMs taking decision about features and they telling engineers to do things no matter how big or small with having no idea what they talking and what all side effects will be.

most of upper management have reached not by virtue but by politics of growing team leaps and bounds. all that is being paid now and innocent hard working engineers are being suffered because of untalented directors sitting on top who have no vision , no planning. good example is of 64bit which apple slapped on our face , what our big bosses doing.. and then suddenly there was mad rush of making every thing 64 bit.

If QCOM continues with this service company culture , it will be in list with Nokia , BBRY.

Yes, non technical program/project managers & directors make product decisions all the time in various support divisions I had been with. I guess it makes them feel important to tell people what to do and force it no matter. They simply move from project to project saddling the engineers to take the blame and suffer the issues. The managers I have seen are mostly there to wield power not to really add value or save money for the company... My 2 cents

Do u guys need program manager approval before brainstorming ideas?

it is not how long the career is....but I think the points made are very valid.... QUALCOMM has offered job security to a lot of people... it is about time to layoff useless people .... there is a lot complacency in QUALCOMM management....
