Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Working for Bank of America Information

Can someone tell me how is it to work for Bank of America. I will be starting as a teller in Los Angeles next and wanted to see if you can tell me how is it working for the bank from an employee perspective. I've seen some posts from people on the web but it almost feel they were marketing posts as all was rosy. I wanted to see what are the main challenges and what are the things I need to be paying attention to the most.

Each department or branch is a little different but in general they say speak up but it is just the opposite. They do not want opinions about anything. Anything you say or do can and will be held against you. Think of this bank being run by a TSAR. Each week the TSAR will pass down how you should act and how you should perform. The next week another demand will come down and you will dance on the desk. Around Voting time they will attempt to tell you who you should vote for and in some respects hint the government is why you are making less money and why they fire and lay people off. Crazy stuff.

Remember the rules in the handbook overlap department rules in the opposite direction so you can be fired for violating the rules before you walk in the door. Also remember everyone is being controlled and driven by a negative Personnel development plan and its all scripted even if it looks like you are given a choice. No one is your friend even if they have a smile on there face and talk to you kindly. You must make your own judgment but if things do not feel right you should quit as fast as you walked in, don't make excuses to make yourself forget. Its like being trapped in a bad infomercial.

Tellers are treated the worst! They don't care about them, they treat them like crap and tell them they are stupid. Regional managers treat them the worst. There is one manager in the RVA area that is the worst. She threat people like crap at her branch, then was promoted to regional and treats others like crap. She has yelled at employees while customers where watching. BUT... they continue to keep her even though numerous people have quit and told HR about her and her actions. This only shows the bank likes this type of management. Why in the world would you treat the people that bring you business like shit since it will only rub off on they way they deal with the customers. SUCH BS!

Don't speak up or give your opinion about anything. They do not like that and you will find yourself demoted and blacklisted for any future advancements. They only follow rules when it fits into their agenda. Their attitude is " be lucky you have a job" They are not work life balance at all. Incompetent managers that don't know what they are doing causing most of the mess. If you are shady, lie and don't care about others this is the place for you.

It all depends on your branch management and what kind of working culture they establish, this varies from branch to branch, it's very hard to outline. To do good, you need to focus on what you are asked to do, need to make sure you do what you've asked to do, you do a good job and try to excel and exceed expectations.
