Thread regarding Baker Hughes Inc. layoffs

Contract labor first?

Does anybody know if all contract hands are being let go in each department before they touch full time Baker hands?

Sadly the number they are trying to reduce doesn't have contract people in it! Their pay is in a totally different set of numbers and because baker is so bad about using contract people instead of hiring them the people that probably should go instead are under the radar.

We've seen quite a few contract people retained while the full time people were let go.

Contract should always go before full-time in any industry. Contract is able to find employment easier and has less tied to the company.

The only exception would be if the company is going under and doesn't want to pay health insurance for full time workers. In that case, they will lay off the full timers and employ 100% contract workers. Be wary if this happens though as your employment will still be short lived.
