Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Why isn't anyone talking about KKR

KKR essentially took control of all EDMC assets last year. So why is no one here talking about KKR and their role in for-profit colleges? For example, KKR holds a signicant portion of Laureate Education, the largest US-based for-profit higher education corporation..... http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-01-06/clinton-pitches-kkr-backed-college-chain-amid-controversy

The only way KKR and Goldman can recoupe their respective investments is to make sure the doors stay open. I would expect to see the compliance issues be tightened up. If the federal government shuts off the the student loans, they be back to holding worthless paper. The value to them is in the free cash flow and you can bet they will be working behind the "scenes" to ensure that the student loan faucet continues to run.

no one talks about kkr because it's not like kkr busted through the doors gestapo style and took over management. as far as anyone on the floor knew it was just another day in the life when they made that announcement. if you haven't noticed at this point there are very few real issues reported on this site and its mostly low level grunts who just love the drama, myself included. i for one look forward to seeing whos name will be put out there next. frankly kkr isnt even on my radar. if the place closes the place closes but i think youre hard pressed to find a noticeable change in culture, rules, or activities that can be traced specifically back to kkr's having 'taken over'

Anybody that knows how edmc got on this current path knows kkr control requires governments blessing and any one that knows anything about government is that any task takes time...july is the magic time if the edmc will be or not no matter who has control...you can wait it out because you are overpaid and hope the circus will not fold or do what you need to do now...do you need it spelled out then you are blind to all that surrounds you

"They say Laureate boosts revenue at struggling colleges by turbocharging enrollment, often without a parallel increase in academic investment." Sounds familiar.

That's an easy question to answer! Its because the majority of the people that post here can't find their way out of a paper bag! Its a known fact to those of us who watch what is going on with the company on a financial level.
