Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

Cheap

The fact that a company can't wait 9 more days to lay someone off so that they are eligible for unemployment really says something...

Thanks for nothing Weatherford.

EI goes by how many hours of work total you have collected.. not by just one job.. If you had a job before this you would qualify..

I have a house. My job prior to that was in a completely different city that I can not move back to. Thank you for the assumptions. No I didn't not just get out of goddamn highschool.

You give way too much credit to:

A. The origination and intelligence of your management

B. How special you are

Lots of people lost their jobs, some surely far worse off than you. Go cry a river.

You give us too much credit. We're not that organized to know or figure that out. When things are good we can barely manage the place, what makes you think we would think that deep to wait nine more days.

Honestly we are given marching orders to make this happen fast, there's a good chance we'll be in your spot next week. At the risk of sounding insensitive, it is really hard to make it gentle or accommodating for everyone. Layoff are shitty. Managers hate doing it, even to the low performers. At the end of the day this is going to F up a persons life. Each person will suffer financially.... Messed up credit rating due to late payments, feeling like a failure, strain in marriages.... It's f***ed to everyone especially the poor people I had to look in the eyes. The sad reality is that there is also a lot of managers who couldn't give a shit about people, and there is no reasoning with them, like mine. But rumour has it he could be gone too. Fingers crossed. Maybe he will die of coolaid poisoning....

I likely wouldn't have or could have ewaited even if I realized there was someone who needed 9 more days. The last thing I want to do is let nines days pass and then let someone else go. Right now we want those left behind to have sense of security even if it is minimal. Everyone would be thinking it's going to come again. This sounds cold, but for the greater good of the group, it would need to be done. We were also given a small window to do this. It wasn't even possible to delay the group for a week. I was told the day it was going to happen.

I appolgize if you worked for me. A lot of good people were let go. I hope you land on your feet. I hope nothing life altering happens to you and all you walk away with is a bad memory about Weatherford. I hope some of the executives in Houston lose their jobs. And I hope more lose their jobs when we are taken over by another player. Because at that time there jobs become redundant.

In 9 days (4 more shifts for me) would have been my 3 months with Weatherford. They laid me off on Monday. In Canada, as I understand it, you are not eligible for unemployment pay/insurance whatever unless you have been with the company for 3 months.
