Thread regarding Follett layoffs

A Note from "The Family"

Dear Whiners,

This company is our birthright. It's income is ours. We choose what to share with our employees. That's right, our employees. We own your sorry butts. Let's get this straight, you work for us and we pay you what we want to pay you and you work here at our pleasure. Here's an uncomfortable reality for you: we demand a certain return on our great, great grandparents' investment. If "One" Follett isn't delivering that return, we can sell it and invest all of our money somewhere else. In order to meet that criteria, we have been taking more of your money through pay cuts, personnel cuts, taking benefits, cutting careers "short", etc. You see we put that money in our bottomless pockets. If you'd work harder and be more innovative, our company would earn us more money so we could leave you alone. So you see, it's your fault. So, quit whining and get back to work. You don't need to work 60 hours 7 days a week (while getting paid for 30 hours), but try to work 65 hours in 6.5 days. Work harder and smarter. Make us proud. By proud we mean rich. By rich, we mean richer. Breaks over losers!

Signed

Folletts, Litzingers and all the rest of the entitled few.

The leadership in this company is completely pathetic and not worthy of respect. Unfortunately, the two or three decent people in upper level/executive management will get clumped in this type of categorical approach.

The director I reported to had NO CLUE how to run a group. Similar to most of the leadership in this company, when a plan of action is created and it fails to work the "leadership" begins to point fingers at his/her reports and denies all responsibility. This often happens after the team has raised concerns and expressed legitimate questions about the course of action. Senior level staff are hired for their expertise but are immediately devalued and indignantly reprimanded in public forums. You have NO say so but are held completely accountable when a plan fails even when you expressed concern about the success from the beginning. How can you respect leadership like this?

What/Who is Pimp Juice?

When asked what Bill Gates did to make MicroSoft stock worth more he laughed and said I dream of really cool software. The stock prices take care of themselves. Follett gets MLS and Pimp Juice sucking up to failed leadership and stealing ideas from her direct reports then throwing them under the bus.

That’s what I call living the values!

Now contrast this leadership to Amazon. Focus on customers only and do what right for customers. The stock price is not number one, and is constantly criticized for under performing. Bezo's know the stock price will take care of itself in the long run if you do the right things in the short run (and remember Bezo's is a dominant shareholder).

Sad to say I was there when AOH introduced MLS to FHEG at the 2012 Holiday party. MLS told us what the value of privately held (by Family members only) Follett stock was in 2008 (before the great recession) and what it was that day. Follett privately held stock had lost about 25% of its value (while our 401k stock had lost about 50% of its value. MLS said her only job was to make Follett stock worth more. Not to take care of our schools, our students offering them more and better but to make the family’s Follett stock worth more. And AOH smiled and nodded. All the pain and suffering on the dedicated associates was to make the family richer.
