Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Fits gonna hit the shan

Overheard John Kline talking about some serious layoffs by July. He was talking about cutting beyond staff levels pre 2008. That means not only the lower levels but a house cleaning of management and up to cut costs and get rid of as he said "dead weight". He talked about part of the reason is to bring employees into a central location so they aren't leasing as much space? Has anyone else heard anything similar?

Exactly 66104...the registrar is "remote" there is only one poor soul in the campus registrar's office. They will be gone, probably by April start. There is only one accounting staff member. Enrollment processors are minimized, because applications are being submitted online. Streamlining = layoffs. Next round is April. Every major start, not the mid-quarters.

Our campus remodeled over the past 18 months 4.5 floors down from 6.5. Departments shoe horned in together, and now with all the rif's lots of open cubes.

Yes...most corupt AI closed n building sold to raise cash then raises stopped as corporate devils receive bonuses then 401k matching ended...gainful employment is just another iceburg for the edmc/titanic ship...rifs, closures, teachouts(no new students) will come to pass...why a student or employee stay? Only time will show the rats swimming on the floating debris

Yes, major layoffs and closures plus massive centralization by July. Advising, Accounting, Financial Aid, and Career Services won't exist on campuses and there wil be teachouts and shutdowns of locations.

It makes sense, just keep a watchful eye on linkedin. Manager level to executives are connecting with people like wildfire. They know more than they are telling.

Seems like the central location item is just a PC way of saying closures are coming...nationally-accredited campuses, remote offices with full staff for the group presidents, etc.

I've posted it before and I'll post it again. The signed leases are fixed costs and it is not easy to sublet SF in an onging school. The Center's in Pheonix were realitively easy to subdivide, but the market is still soft to sublet. And just becasaue you gave up the space doen't mean that teh rent adn cam charges stop, most significant, immmediate cost reductions will come from RIWF's. Don't say I didn't warn you
