Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Biggest mistake of my life, based on a recruiters lies

How is it that a recruiter can lie to you about being placed into a job after graduation, get you enrolled based on a lie, and then you end up not being placed into a job stuck with no way to pay back the accumulated debt?

They don't even maintain the name of the recruiters that get a student to enroll.

Forget school and just buy a book as far as i'm concerned:

Some of these comments I find kind of ridiculous. The school has placement assistance. They can't control how someone interviews or how much effort they put into finding their own job. Jobs did not just fall from the sky when you graduate. Anyone that did the research is awarethat you have to work your way up in the ladder, you cannot always start at the top. Career services can only instruct you so far in mock interviews, but it's up to you to sale yourself to the emplyer. Why are you the best fit for this job? A majority of the students I hear from that can't find a job, are having trouble because of poor attendance, resulting in average or below average grades, or because they're kind of rude. What do you call a doctor with the lowest grade in his graduating class... A doctor.... He won't get the same offers that are made to his classmates that performed at peak. Honestly that's the way it should be. If I was an employer I want the best of the best staff, not the person that gets by doing the bare minimum. If you can't meet minimum expectations in school, why should I expect that you'll exceed expectations in your field?

The Art Institutes are a scam. These degrees are worthless. You are better off at a community college or reputable state school.

How is it that you take no responsibility for your own decision?
