Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Brown Mackie Closing Locations-Hot off the Press

Dear Student:

After careful consideration, Brown Mackie College - Northern Kentucky will cease enrolling new students as of today. This decision will not impact current students. Brown Mackie College will continue to offer courses to allow all currently active students the opportunity to complete their programs. During this time, the school will also continue to provide student services and placement assistance for students.

Our regulators and accrediting bodies have been informed of our decision to cease enrolling new students and we will continue to work with them through this transition. The school will remain accredited until the final graduate has completed their program. We will continue to work with our institutional accreditor, the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to ensure compliance with all applicable standards for accreditation and with the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education to maintain licensure with the state. We will do the same for all related programmatic accreditations, to include the accreditation for our nursing programs with the State Board of Nursing.

In the coming week, the Dean of Academic Affairs or I will contact you to make an appointment to outline your anticipated course sequence and program completion date. In the interim, I will be holding open office hours today from 3 pm - 7 pm and invite you to stop by with any questions you may have.

I will provide you with information as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Melissa McMahon

In less than one month they have gotten rid of all the full time personnel. So much for supporting the students through to graduation.

The only rebranding that will work is students first money second!

Wonder if the rebranding under South will work since the main campus is now under an accreditation warning? Substantive changes aren't allowed when a school is on warning.

Yes, at Ai they cook the books especially on Vets but also scam financial aid by not having it fully explained to students. "just sign here or you have to be pulled out if school." What a scam. And the degrees are worthless.

Lol...the strategy is to close some (ai bm etc) then rebrand the broken wheel from one (South) of the broken spokes. New paint will not fix the foundation. Two years with billions lost and you idiots have learned nothing but defer defer defer in order to milk title IV and veterans funding until department of education and vets wake up. You have feds fooled and in your pocket but us students have caught on with declining enrollments sherlocks...phoenix settled so wise up you wisenhimers otherwise blah blah blah

I'm a student and I did not find out who EDMC was until being at Brown Mackie for a year. If you do a search of Brown Mackie you do not find anything bad. See all the dirty secrets are attached to EDMC and search them and half the results come back as a foreign country! It really is a paper tiger scam! The schools are just fronts and just a hair above being fake. It's just a brand name and that's it! Period.

Yup yup...status quo of desperation. Rebranding from within Only will kick the can of continued billion dollar in Title IV funding and nothing else. A cover for continued federal deception. Student Beware. DO YOUR RESEARCH or blame no one.

Really. Yet another Friday negative press release at the end of the business day. WOLVES in sheep's clothing that hide behind a false vail of suit and tie credibility. Just look at the education background of those in charge at any level in the edmc brand chain. Priority are over staffing admissions positions as all other areas such as full-time faculty are understaffed. Hmmm education is the reason for being but no faculty.

Still waiting for the ACICS Council Actions report to come out. BMC cronies sat on their asses while programs on reporting for PLACEMENT did not get back into compliance within the two-year time frame. Those programs MIGHT have passed gainful employment but were due to get pulled for non compliance. Unless of course they cooked some books there too.

Well all the staff at this school is out of a job soon and all the students are in limbo! It's going to be real fun being a student going to school here over the next 6 months and being taught by people who are going on unemployment soon. That's got to be a big morale booster.

They had a TERRIBLE president there and then they promoted her! She was horrible to her staff. Terrible people skills and totally dishonest. Always driving people off or firing them. She was a former Corinthian employee so I guess she learned how to run 'em straight into the ground. No worries, she is working for the whole BMC system no so it won't be long.

This is the Start to the End of EDMC. This Campus was small but really nice and in a great location in a high rent area unlike the inner city locations. It had good programs in the medical field that would lead to a good job with good pay $20 to $30 per hour jobs. If they are folding then a cooking school is not far behind.

Talk about waste! The average program at Art Institutes costs over $80k and the average salary these "graduates" make is under $25k, usually at a job you can get without a degree. There is also a scam going on with career services as to how they define a job related to the degree. Throw in the VA scams going in and this place is circling the drain. The credits also don't transfer, not even to other Art Institute locations! Time to rebrand it Fart Institute as that is what the programs are worth.

I agree. There is a associate degree in Pharmacy Technology in Ohio even though pharmacies train all of their own people in the state. There is a law holding pharmacies responsible for Tech training so the pharmacies do it themselves to be sure of the quality. I feel sorry for the people who pay for that program and then could have done the same job with on the job training. All that debt. What a waste!!

The problem is that most of the programs at Brown Mackie have no business being college degrees. They are vocational trades. Should be in and out in 6 months and working. Problem is the GI Bill only will give 9500 per year for vocational training. Plus you have 90/10 and that scam going on. It's just a complete mess across the nation with these for profits. Makes you want to puke.
